Taper?

Anyone get the feeling that there losing fitness during the taper? I am so used to feeling “pumped”, but now feel like I may not remember how to run this Sunday at IMLP?

It’s normal to feel a little down for a taper, but I would have expect you’d bounce back by now… When did you taper begin and what has it consisted of… Provide more details and others will chime in…

I just know it’s working my body is much rested and my workouts are showing it. I have been doing the same bike workout for the past 3 weeks and puls are droping (5 puls) every week for the same pace effort.

Workout
4 x 4 min TT (26-27mph) - 6 min easy spin

First week 165 puls
Second week 160 puls
This week 153 puls

So it’s working…I have been cutting 3 hours of training per week…

Maybe you didn’t cut enough hours and intensity???

funky feeling, isn’t it? don’t worry about it though - stick with your plan and you will be fine on race day

That is a good sign. The worse I feel during the taper, the better I am on race day!

Here is everything you need to know about this subject:

Until I read this, I had no idea what it was for, now I know I need one for the swim.

Trust the taper. The worst thing you can do at this point is to try to add volume because you think you are out of shape. You are not getting out of shape. Part of the taper is knowing that you are ready to race fast.
