Taper Advice - Supplement reduced volume with walking?

Few reasons I want to keep active:

Want to keep my “streak” of running 10k per day (know this is a slight cheat!).
I’m hoping it will help combat any last minute weight gain.
It’s taking my mind off wanting to go out and run!

Any advice on whether this is good/bad/neutral?

What is your goal and what are your priorities?

  1. Race performance? Don’t walk
  2. Keep your streak alive? Walk
  3. Normal, Balanced, Life? Deeply evaluate what it is you are doing and why you are doing it.

Goal and main priority is to perform well in the marathon.

Then no. You taper like you’re supposed to. The point is recovery.

If you find that you HAVE to do it anyway, seek a therapist because you’ve got some sort of issue to work through.

Put the fork down and rest!
If you are at goal weight and well trained- You need to trust the process.
If you know what you are eating, I wouldn’t even get on the scale.
It is natural to have some weight gain if you are well hydrated and full of glycogen.
Getting on the scale to much can make you worry and do things that are counter-productive to having a good performance.

Assuming race performance is your main goal. Don’t walk. Taper properly. Use all the extra free time to spend time with the friends/family you’ve been ignoring while training like a beast. Do nice stuff for the significant other (if you have one). It’s easy to forget how selfish racing is and the sacrifices other people around you made to get you to the starting line.

Thanks, some good advice, taken and resulted in a massive PB.

Well done but I’m sure people want details

Did a proper taper, trusted my training, weight and diet/nutrition.
