Tanita Body Fat Scales?

Looking at the Tanita BC-554 body composition scale. Are these accurate? Anybody use them. I know that water displacement method is the best way to test for body fat. This model apparently calculates digital weight, body fat %, muscle mass, bone mass, metabolic age, BMR, total body water %, etc. I’d like to hear what people have to say.

they don’t have to be accurate, just consistent.

if you are, let’s say 15% in accurate scientific terms, it matters not if the Tatina scales read 14% or 17% as long as they concistently give the same result.

just treat it as an scale.

I mean what is a kilogram or a pound anyway, just a measure.

Just go by the old belt buckle test.

If you have to move out a hole, time to lose some bulk. If you have to tighten the belt, by a hole or two, you might be closing in on a PB at your next race. If you can see the veins on your abs, you are down below 5%. This is all you need to know. Everything else is just gimmicks.

Dev, you’re a genius. The belt buckle test I use all the time…haven’t had cause to notice the veins on my ‘flabs’ yet, but you folks will be the first to know if I do!!

i have the tanita tbf-622 scales in good condition for sale. (older model, i’m guessing.) pm me if interested. personally, i think the “damn my abs look good today” test is more than adequate if bf percentage <10 (or jump up and down naked in front of a mirror if bf >10). Also, i hear the bioimpedence method is iffy for low bf people.

Damn I’d make a terrible salesman…

Found some reviews online and I think I got my answer. Thanks everyone. I’ll be replacing the scale my kids broke by jumping on it with something much cheaper than the Tanita brand.
