Talk to me about St Croix 1/2

Anyone done this race? Thoughts? How hot is it? How bad is the beast? How much fun is the after-party? I have booked it already. I’'m staying at the race hotel (DivaCairina.sp?) Looks to me like the only flights there are via Miami. Seems like a cool race from what I can tell and should be competitive with the Kona slots now allocated. Any insight would be appreciated…Thx.J-MO

Wed morning bump …

Nobody done this race ???

Be patient, brother. Lots have done it. They’ll get around to it. I’ve only dreamed of it:) I have a couple of friends who did it and it was very hot, the water was rough, it was windy. Sounds awesome, right? Try www.parardisefoundstx.com for places to stay. I got that link thru this board.

Good Luck!

Yeah - I figured it would be damn hot, I’ll deal with that. Just curious on how hilly the bike course is…I know there’s the ‘beast’ but how relentless is the rest of the course. And is the run shaded, stuff like thet. Like you said, I know lots on the board have done it but I tried a search and couldn’t find anything.

It was very hilly leading upto the beast and after also. Here is a link to a prior post.

St. Croix is a great course, and a great race. The Beast is hard, but if you have the right gears, it won’t be a problem. The Beast comes fairly early on, and the rest of the course is hot, hilly, and windy. If you don’t do any work until after the Beast, you’ll be able to ride well during the second part of the course. If you do a lot of work before the Beast, and on the Beast, you may be flat and tired later on. If you pace yourself well early on, the second part of the course is a great place to make up time. You also want to be somewhat fresh for the run. I think that St. Croix is all about pacing. If you can get that down, you’ll have a lot of fun out there.
