It’s pretty hard to go wrong with a Colnago and $3200 isn’t a bad deal. I’d still be scared to put that kind of jack up on Ebay though. I’ve been ripped off by deadbeat sellers there a couple of times. As far as the bike itself, Colnago geometry is a little different and some buyers find they need a smaller size than they would normally ride. As far as the quality of a Colnago Ti bike, it’s just as nice as a Merlin, Litespeed, Guru, or Merckx, but it does have that Colnago “prestige.” I wouldn’t say that it is better or worse than anything else in it’s class. It’s also a great bike if you are an Italian bike collector.
The paint is beautiful.
Fortunately, this seller is three hours away so I could do a face-face deal.

A question for you from those of us with less ebay experience: how exactly did the scam work in which you were ripped off? I thought ebay has developed enough safeguards and guarantees and feedback that this is prevented. Or, not really?
Thanks. Your input will help prevent others from being scammed.

Will cost you probably 50 - 100, but worth it.
I’ve never been ripped off by bike people. I’m also a musician and have been ripped of mainly by a book dealer and a few other lower priced items. All they did was accept my payment and never respond. I complained to Ebay and they never did anything about it. I don’t know what safeguards are in place now, but I’m very careful about who I deal with. Luckily, all of my purchases regarding cycling have been good experiences. Perhaps cyclists and triathletes are more honest than musicians?
Owning a Colnago is a different experience than owning any other bike. I love Italian frames and Colnago has that certain intangible no one else has. If you can do a face to face deal, go for it!
Between the ridiculously low seat height and the explicit warning to get fitted before bidding, I would hazard a guess that the seller didn’t follow the latter advice.
I was thinking about the seat myself, but that takes only a few seconds to correct. As long as a 58 cm frame is the right size, how can you go wrong with a Colnago.
Great bike. Needs nothing.
Remember, 58cm Colnago = 56cm for traditional ctc sizing.
Hello, I cant view the link, but a few years ago Colnago made a ti frame with two small side by side down tubes. I new a couple of people who bought them and they all loved the ride right up until the weld at the BB broke. As long as its not that model I wouldn’t worry about the construction of the frame.

Would you think the ride for this bike would be very stiff or somewhat forgiving?
Most shops where I have tried bikes seem to want to put me on a 57 (5’10 / 31" inseam). So I might be a little large for this frame?
Crap!
How many years back? This is a 2003.
The twin-tubed Ti bike was the Bi-Titan and was made around 1996. They stopped making it after only a couple of years.
Richard
If they were selling a 2003 Bi-Titan, it would be a big, fat lie on the seller’s part.
Someone beat me to calling the twin- tube bike the bi-titan. Almost bought one, but glad I didn’t.
To prevent being ripped off with larger size items, I usually don’t deal with anyone with less than 100 good feedbacks and a rating above 97%. In addition, I have asked for phone numbers and usually insist on paying through paypal or another escrow service. If location permits, deal face to face.
-Be wary of anyone who posts their item in the wrong category (like a bike posted in books).
-Be wary of anyone who asks you to contact them rather than bid on the item…this is very sketchy and ebay usually shuts these people down.
-Never deal with anyone who asks for a wire transfer to their account.
-Never accept a money order for more than the item where you’re supposed to deliver cash to someone else. This is a complete scam. Lots of people are counterfeiting US money orders now.
Good luck!
is paypal a decent safety net/“escrow”, say, for ebay items costing less than $1000?
the reason i ask is that with paypal you are often requested to send along the funds before you get the item.
does paypal protect you (the buyer) in the transaction?

It is a very forgiving frame, but I think it’s too big for you. I’m 5’11" with a 32 inseam. A 57 cm frame with traditional Italian geometry (Cinelli Supercorsa, Pegoretti Marcelo) fits me perfectly. I ride a 55.5 cm frame on Colnagos. Their geometry is anything but traditional.
To go on a slight tangent…
I took my wife’s bike for a spin around the neighbourhood last night. It has Campy Record on it. Swwwweeeeeeeetttt! I have Dura-Ace on mine and I gotta say it does not ride as well as Record does. Campy is way ahead of Shimano in my opinion. My wife is not a bikie…perhaps she would not notice if I swapped the groupo???
I’m confused. I thought Aztec said 58 colnago equal 56 traditional.
