I think it’d be fun to go on a week long fast. I don’t care if I grow weak and can’t run/bike/swim (although I doubt that), I’ll just sit around and meditate all day if I have to. I just want to experience what it’s like and to train mental toughness.
Who has done it before? What did you do? And how did it go for you?
An under active colon is common to most people these days. Even the US Health & Human Services, in a rare display of candor, admitted several years ago that ‘over 90%’ of Americans are walking around with clogged colons.
Our colons were intended by nature to function as smoothly flowing sewer systems in order to promptly flush digestive wastes from the body.
Instead they have become stagnant cesspools, the physiological equivalent to a festering pile of uncollected garbage or a broken toilet that continues to be used for defecation.
Take note of the tortuous twists and bends in the below colons… the pinched and withered sections that have completely degenerated, and the enormous sacculations of impacted mucus and trapped feces.
i’ve done a couple days, but not a week. The first 24 hours is the hardest. I’ve heard that after a couple days it gets really easy. I recommend that you research this before you just stop eating.

I actually did do a liquid fast once for a week to jump-start a weight loss effort. It worked, too! Learning that I had the will power to simply NOT EAT for a week made me realize that controlling what I eat afterward would be a piece of cake.
I did it in the off season, so had no issues with fueling for or recovering from major workouts. I only started to feel “weak” in the last day or two.
Don’t know if I was “detoxified” after that week but I sure did lose a few pounds. And as I said, it was an excellent mental jumpstart for a longer term diet effort. Seriously helped me kick my sugar habit.
Suppose this is true, many of us as we get older get a lower gi scope done. I think it is officially recommended for anyone over 50.
Wouldn’t we all get pictures of a nasty, mucus covered colon? But when they look in there it’s not covered with impacted poop. Nor does the medicine you take the day before induce mucus expulsion.
Instead we all have movies and pictures that quite honeslty look remarkably clean considering the subject matter.
I did a bit of a fast a few weeks ago. Consisted of raw vegetables, brown rice, and fruit in the AM. Water and herbal team sans caffeine to drink. First day I did 8 mile run at tempo. Second I went to run an easy 5 and felt miserable. I went to subway on my way home and got a big grilled chicken sandwich.
I wouldn’t expect much from your workouts if you are going to try any sort of fasting or even major diet changes (although doesn’t sound like this is an issue for you). I’d like to do it again when I can clear the workout/work schedule.
Also made me realize how dependent I am on coffee during the work day. Probably not a good thing.
Here’s a question for the general audience: what strategy/attitude should I adopt going into my fast? Should I establish a food guideline and stick to it like glue? Or should I follow only a rough guideline to allow for variability? Should guilt be invovled in fasting?
There seems to be degrees of fast. Some people just drink water. Some people add juice or honey. Others allow fruit. One man’s fast may be considered cheating by another man.
In the end, does the food selection even matter if you’re in this for the mental exercise?
Finally, WHO’S IN THIS WITH ME??? I’m starting on Monday.
Did anyone else see KJGROG’s Clermont Pub Crawl Thread? Well, there was a picture of BottomFeeder in there and the last thing this skinny bastard should be doing is fasting! The only thing he has left to lose is grey matter and bone mass
yes i have done it before … its called an eating disorder and if you would like to PM me about it i would be glad to give you the details. you might think it is fun but i assure you it is not … the first day is mentally hard … the second day the hunger pains start to set in and your stomach gets a bit upset … the third day the hunger pains start to become a real b**** … the fourth day you will start to feel zoned out and weak … the fifth day you will no longer be hungry but you will have trouble completing thoughts and you will also notice that you no longer need a bathroom ( but maybe thats good … although im pretty sure any doctor would tell you it is not … you dont have to worry about the last two days … by that point your brain will pretty much tune out the pain and it will just be focusing on sending signals to your body to start eating away at your muscle! Oh and by the way when your fast is over … you better start getting back to eating very slowly … your stomach is going to have its revenge … hehehe … good luck and have fun???
Come on, you wankers. Why is nobody jumping on board? This is your chance to step outside of your routine and experience something new. Where are your competitive instincts when it comes to fasting? I’ll bet I can kick all your asses…
