Hey guys,
Iam just looking at getting some thoughts/opinions on the following topic. It has been highlighted and well documented that talent transfer from one sport to another has worked very well. There are quite a few examples out there for example Britains Rebecca Romero transfering from Rowing to track cycling with success. But are the examples out there just a fluke, in that is there an actual system in place for talent transfer or do athltes just stumble upon a new sport?
Iam interested in talent transfer for Triathlon and looking at how to recruit for new athletes with an aim of putting thm on a National program. Do we just focus on individual swim/bike/run clubs/ national governing bodies and form a relationship with them so that if any athetes want to stop that sport they are given the choice/ information about another sport.
Or do we look at the wider perspective and look at other sports? By doing a widespread ad campaign etc to invite young athletes to come along to a training day to get a feel for the sport. Sort of like a talent day for Triathlon.
This just interests me that there must be so many athletes out there who could suceed but are just not given the opportunity or the knowledge/info in order to start.
Especially with swimmers, I think we have to work together better. There is so many swimmers out there flogging their guts out but realistically they won’t make it but maybe if given the opportunity might in another sport, rather than just be lost to sport all together.
Anyway that is just my thoughts, fire away anyone,
Thanks
