Tailbone

Has anyone ever injured their tailbone? If so, any ideas as to helping the healing along? Thanks in advance.

Is it hurt from the steelers kicking you in it last night? (Jets)

I have been unable to ride for over one and a half hours because of a bruised tailbone, and I am STILL not completely pain-free. Go to the chiro and do whatever your doctor says to do is my advice.

Good luck.

Cute! No, took a tumble on the ice.

Thanks, I was thinking of doing that but was not sure if it would help. How long has it been since you injured it? Just wondering, I have read anywhere from 8 weeks and sometimes longer.

A year and a half ago.

I didn’t see the doc until too late. The numbness from my low back to mid hammy should have been a clue. I did not feel it when my wife or my femakle customers would smack my ass (true story).

Don’t be a dumb, numb-ass like me. Go to the doc.

Again, good luck.

It is a horrible injury, between a seperated shoulder or a cracked tailbone, I didn’t know which one took longer to heal. Take it easy for a long time, then get a softride.

For me,

Cracked tailbone = 3 months to heal

Seperated shoulder = 10 months so far with no end in sight.

Jets…

sorry about the loss to the Steelers, guess I will have to cheer for the Falcons now.

Listen to Bunnyman, get yourself to the Chiro (yes I am biased, it will be my profession in a few short months).

For immediate…think of the donuts they sell to the older people for hemmorhoids (crap I can’t spell), purchase one. Seriously, it is the one thing that will let you sit and be comfortable.

Once you get some x-rays of the area you might find you chipped the tailbone, or possibly just shifted the pelvis. Shifted pelvis can be adjusted, chipped tailbone needs TIME to heal.

Either way, take some down time, because the recovery is serious if you abuse yourself in the process of recovering. TIME cannot be rushed.

If it’s your coccyx there is a specific manipulation that can be performed. It’s not pretty, requires a gloved hand and some lube. I have never performed it, and hopefully never will, but apparently it is quite effective. If you are sure it is not fractured, you may want to consider this, your chiro or physical therapist trained in manual therapy should be able to help you out with this.

I think Tibbs was doing this one a while back… even offerred a ST discount!

Thanks for all the information. Just curious though, when you say downtime, is this anything that makes it hurt? Swimming doesn’t hurt unless I do the breast stroke and push off hard from the wall. Running is what hurts the most. I could always aqua jog(yuck). I biked twice this week but only for about 20 min(indoor) at a time. Thanks again.
