How many people are thinking about going down to Tahiti in February? I am going down and am really looking forward to it. It is such a good way to keep up your motivation in the winter months to know that you are going to a tropical race to get a break from the cold. I think I saw that Tom Demerly(sp?) was going to be there.
The resorts in Tahiti are great, the rest of Tahiti ain’t so great. Downtown smells like raw sewage. None of the cars, and there are many on Tahiti, have any emissions controls on them, I hope you don’t have to ride or run alongside them. Still, it is the South Pacific, and the view of Moorea from Tahiti is wonderful.
If you are able, stay on Moorea, just an hour’s ferry ride away. Totally different world, lush, tropical, quiet, completely extraordinary.
I was in that area for 2 weeks last year. One week on a deserted island with no electricity, phones, TVs, roads, nothing other than 2 servants and my wife. Unfortunately it was during the Tour de France, and I could get no updates!
It is maevatours.com/triathlon I think it is gonna be a really cool race. Basically flat I am told. I am also staying at the Sheraton. I believe I am going to hold a small clinic before the race. You probably know all you need to know but this will be a good race for newbies.
Morea is great. Make sure you check out at least one of the other islands after the race. I stayed on a deserted island with only a resort and a population of like 50 people - it was awesome. Everything is pretty expensive, though.
