I just got my Fortius up and running. But I cannot get the real life video (Milan-San Remo) to display on the entire computer screen. It only comes up with a small screen (very hard to see) with training information. The VR comes up on the full screen just fine. I havent gotten an answer from TACX.com, so I thought I would try there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Doh!! just got it. The up/down buttons on the handlebar unit.
LOL…I’ve had mine for 3 weeks. They are great. have you seen virtualcycling.org? I download the rides from the current races and race against them. I have not joined the leagues, yet. I’m still practicing. These guys are fast as hell.
The only RLV I have is Evergreen, CO. In fact, I’m debating right now as to whether or not to ride outside (62 degrees) or ride for a few hours on the Fortius.
I was thinking about getting one of these. But I would like to video some local routes and ride then. Anyone have any idea how hard it is to do make your own? It would also be cool to wire up the real life video to a treadmill’s speed and incline.
I have NO idea if this can be done or not. I really don’t want to ride my regular routes on the trainer. I ride them all the time, I’d rather ride in Europe or Colorado when I can’t ride outside.
Have you ridden a Computrainer? If so, how would you compare the two? Any thoughts?
how is that thing working ??
how about the down hills ?
does the rear wheel spin by motor ?
Dirt
The “motor brake” applies force for uphills and spins your rear wheel to simulate downhills. Its really cool. I’ve actually had a few “accidents” taking hairpin downhills a tad too fast and crashed into the woods. I have the steering unit so I can go any where I want in the map. There’s no set course, just ride where ever I feel like it. I can even turn around and ride the courses backwards. The steering unit replaces the front wheel into a fork mount and you steer with your handle bars just like real, except there’s no lean.
I was wondering what happens if you ride into a tree?
The machine (computer) comes to a complete stop, with you and the bike in the woods. You just start up again, ride back onto the road and go. Thank god you don’t get hurt, or I’d have been in the hosptial a few times over the past 3 weeks!! Next trick, we’ll see what happens when I ride over a cliff!!
tacx is on my santa list
sounds very very cool
the price is less then the CT ?
Thom
have a great Christmass
Under 1200 for the new Fortius, with steering unit and one Real Life Video of your choice. Be sure your computer is at least a Pentium 3 with an excellent graphics card or you’ll have problems.
Be careful buying the RLV. I’ve heard that the climbs are so real that you can’t do them. Some of the climbs of the TDF in real life are steep enough that sections have to be walked, and its the same on the Fortius RLV. The new Tacx software (1.34) allows you to adjust the % incline down so that they are rideable. Wild heh?
I can ride against up to 5 opponents at one time…oh…drafting works!!! So, draft to the end and then sprint like hell, just remember, thats a real guy you are racing and he’s doing the same thing!!
… spins your rear wheel to simulate downhills.
Can you do motorpacing?
There’s no “vehicle” in the program to pace. The only drafting you can do is off other cyclists that you have downloaded or other rides that you have saved on that course. The program spins your rear wheel when the course starts downhill and at the appropriate speed to the slope based on your inputted wieght plus bike wieght.
I’ve tried to chase cars but technically this cannot be done. Its tough to explain. That car was video taped from a car making the video you are seeing and running from your bike. The faster you pedal the faster that video, hence car, will move. Therefore…you are chasing something that you are making go faster…therefore…you ain’t gonna catch it to be able to draft off of it. Other downloaded cycists, from the internet or saved from your other rides are a different story. You can catch them, as they are “added” to the program at a certain speed…get it?
I’ve even pulled a really stupid thing and I really should not mention it here, but what the hell. I was racing the other day with 4 other people that I loaded off the internet. There are different “views” you can set to view yourself from before each ride. Birds eye, eye, from above, behind, etc. I got blown away by all the other other racers except one. I chased that guy for the entire race and could never close the gap he had from the start, about 5 meters. I was wondering how that guy knew everytime I accellerated and he did too. Even jumped up a few small hills trying to catch him…but he “jumped” up the same damn hill!!! Come to find out I was in “behind” view and I was chasing myself… : ) Pretty stupid, heh???
Tomorrow its supposed to be 43 degrees here so I’m doing a 2 hour ride in Evergreen, CO in the summer time!
I’m getting an i-Magic any day now. Anything I should be aware of when setting it up for the first time? Do the PC requirements listed on the Tacx site cover it, or would it run better with more memory, etc?
Thanks,
Greg
I also just acquired an i-magic and was wondering if anyone has any advice on optimizing the experience.
Also I have a few specific questions:
-
Is there anyway other than freeriding (i have the steering unit and the old i-magic software) to make a long ride course? It seems that the program only lets you do one lap which I think maxes out at 9 or 11 miles and then you have to go through the menus and start it again.
-
Is there anyway to get more than one opponent on the course? Again I have the old software.
Any comments/feedback?
Thanks
I found the requirements they list as fine. The only thing that really effects it would be an even better graphics card.
I had to install the software twice before it would run correctly. I have no problems with mine, it runs without a problem. Spent 90 minutes cycling in Evergreen CO yesterday. Today, I’ll warm up and then race against some downloaded riders from virtualcycling.org. I’m still learning how to draft and race tactically against these guys. It’s tough!
I was wondering what happens if you ride into a tree?
If you have a steering frame and have enabled the ‘crash’ option, then whenever the rider encounters an obstacle (tree, curb, building) you will see the rider take a rather spectacular fall but this is only in the VR terrains - Atlantis, Calisto, Olympus, and the Velodrome.
It calls for a 128 MB 3D Vid card - would you suggest a 256MB one - or do you have a 128MB card and it works well? Thanks in advance.
Greg
I have a 128 and works fine. No problems. My laptop graphics card was not good enough so its connected to my desktop in the office.
