I’m interested in purchasing Cycling Peaks. It seems to support data upload from the computrainer and virtually every power meter, but I can’t determine if you can import wattage information from the Tacx Fortius. Is anyone currently doing this successfully?
Nobody’s tried this???
Tacx Fortius loads directly into CP WKO+ with all the data: speed, power, heart rate, cadence. Just make sure you download the latest build. BTW, the Fortius is AWESOME! The Real Life Videos really keep me from getting bored riding inside and I have used Topo USA to make GPX files that get converted to Tacx catalyst files to replicate my usual routes.
Get fitcentric’s netathlon 2. I don’t know about “importing” wattage, but the software does keep track of it while you are riding with their beautiful courses. It gives you a report afterwards. You can go to their website, download and try it for 10 days for free.
Muscle Boy - NetAthlon doesn’t support Fortius yet. They only support the older Tacx IMagic. I’m looking forward to either a) NetAthlon being usable with Fortius, or b) Fortius starting online racing - which they’ve promised in their own software.
Which versions CP and Fortius software are you running?
I have CP 1.5 and Fortius 1.34. I can’t get any Fortius workouts (either VR or RLV) into Cycling peaks.
How do you do it?
Thanks
Yeah, how are you doing this?
And Yeah, the Real Life Videos are awesome. Really humbles you though when you realize how fast even the slower riders did the Alp d’Huez TT a few years ago.
I don’t have the alps RLV yet, can you tell me how the ride up Alp d’Huez is? Someone (who probably has no idea)told me that it doesn’t go up the switchback route…does it go up the tour route?
thanks
I’m running Cycling Peaks ver 2.1 (build 50) and Fortius 1.34. I simply select the Fortius saved file in WKO+ with the File-OpenWorkout menu and it works perfectly.
There’s only one route up the Alpe (there’s a ride that comes in from a different direction, but it’s differently named). The RLV has the classic route that come in from Borg d. Oisans (misspelled I’m sure!!). I’ve done the route in France before, and this is as close as you can get to it without the $1,000 airfare!
I just installed the video last week and I have only done about 1/3 of d’Huez but it is brutal. It does have the switchbacks, they give you about 15seconds of relief. The scenery is unbelievable until you hit the mountain, then you just get hit with the proverbial hammer over the head. Just my uneducated guess, but it probably simulates the ride pretty well. I’ll have to look at the analyzer data, but I think I was averaging a little over 200 watts and going 6 mph. My weight plus bike = 160lbs.
The Alpine Classic Marmotte RLV is the one with Alp d’Huez correct?
Thanks again for your help…I still can’t get my Cyclingpeaks (1.5) to import the fortius rides so its proabaly the 2.0 or later wko versions which can view them.
Pat
Yes, Alpine Classic Marmotte is the one with Alp d’Huez. It also has the Galbier and Lautaret. The profile for the entire ride looks like some kind of sick joke.
Another thing I learned the other night about Fortius/Catalyst is to remember to disconnect any non-essential USB devices before I start. 10 minutes into a ride my Forerunner, which was sitting in the charging/uplink cradle, decided it needed to communicate with the computer and crashed Catalyst. I had to restart my computer to get the Fortius software to start back.
I can’t get the data to Cycling Peaks because I forgot there is a difference between Cycling Peaks and Training Peaks. I don’t have Cycling Peaks, and just misread the post so I can’t help you out there.
The Alpine Classic Marmotte RLV is the one with Alp d’Huez correct? …
Pat - You should be looking for the new Alpine Classic 2007 RLV (T1956.18). This has the route with the classic switchbacks. An early production run of DVDs have loading errors. If you have problems at the end of the video, contact TACX for a replacement.
I’m suprised no one mentioned the Virtual Cycling Federation (www.virtualcycling.org). They have several continuous racing leagues. Each round lasts 10 weeks with new courses every 2 weeks. There is a wide range of participants so you can compare your performance (heart rate, speed, power, and cadence) on flat to steep courses.
Enjoy. Jim B.
Yo, this is semi-related in that to all you knowledgeable fortius/rv/experts = are u all running this off of XP on PCs? Anyone out there running it off of XP on a MAC (ie parallels/bootcamp) I keep posting on the tacx forum but it seems that with the huge slowtwitch audience there might be more people here that have had experience with apple and the fortius software.
I have a macbook with 2.0 processor / 2x512/ plus 120gig drive/ bot last week/ I only have the basic video card that come with it (intel 950)…
I am still on the fence as to buying a tacx vs a computrainer. If anyone has RECENTLY bot a mac / tacx / computrainer combo, please post on here as it would help me make up my mind.
at this point the pros/cons:
- computrainer = everyone and their mom in usa has one/ many courses (specially IM) / spinscan (very debateable) /
–BUT = 1,450$ / some forum posters reporting shaky experience with macs running parallels or bootcamp / not as intuitive / poor graphics compared to tacx - tacx = everyone and their mom in euroland has one / many euro courses (and a way to convert computrnr course to imagic) / powerful motor even on descents / 450$ cheaper than computrainer/ nice graphics plus intuitive
—BUT = way less tech support / some forum posters shaky experience with macs running parallels or bootcamp / not as many people have it in usa so if something brakes…umm i speak spanish but not dutch. - option is tacx + buy a cheap PC…but that gets me to back to computrainer prices!
aaghh, decision decisions…help!
