Brooks you keep suggesting Ironman does a legacy weekend on Hawai’i (when Honu numbers don’t support them) and someone else brings up that the souring of a business relationship hurt PTO’s only chances of a self contained race…and then I point out that there are weekend available you go “well the RD said this”. Well, the RD isn’t Bill Christy or Lesa France Kennedy so it doesn’t matter.
1st off- if your going to accuse PTO of souring a relationship, either come out with that, because if your saying they soured a relationship cus they can’t get Daytona in March (or spring); I think your completely misinformed. Clash Endurance is owned by Bill Christy, so if he could get his own race series on Daytona in March, don’t you think he could? PTO and Clash had a working relationship as of last year, they didn’t go back to Miami, and Clash has already moved off that Miami/spring venue (for randomass Biloxi, MS of all places). So please expand on this soured relationship you are suggesting is happening, if you don’t know and just talking out your ass, your basically trolling. If they’ve soured a relationship then do tell, if they haven’t I don’t think it’s fair to suggest they have, that’s in really poor form,
Didn’t say March, just said another date on the calendar. Souring, seems clear. But I’m only reading tea leaves and know nothing other than what’s out there. Maybe it’s hunky dory. But the relationship that Christy has could clearly be leveraged for another date in the calendar and it’s clear that Renouf chose a different direction.
Jan-May Daytona is unavailable, so if the PTO decided a summer race is a bad idea in Florida…umm I don’t blame them, don’t they already have Signapore for the “hot” race on the calendar? Be honest- you’d be giving them shit, if they did a middle of summer time race in Daytona with the weather that florida gets.
Again they could use Daytona in Dec (which is Clash Daytona and what they already did). I don’t think they want to use that type of course setup as their finale; even though I think they could improve the bike course by adding the “road course” segment of Daytona infield (basically do the 24 hours of Daytona course). I don’t think they aren’t using it because of any soured relationships, I think it just isn’t an great season finale appealing venue.
Can the London T100 be held at the same time as the AG/amateur race? I know some like the atmosphere within small stretch where the crowd can gather and cheer by the Excel centre. But having the pros riding along central London with the Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Westminster, London Eye etc. on the background be so great for socials and the broadcast. That backdrop would trump the lack of crowds cheering. That’s probably the one race to combine the pro and amateur race given how dreary the industrial estate is the regular pro-course.

Pure speculation - we’ve seen the WTCS calendar with their race on 21st June. And filling the T100 calendar needs two races between San Francisco (6thJune) and Vancouver on 13th August. My guess is that the PTO will want to maintain a French race and also a Spanish race. But if the PTO schedule their French race at the end of August it will screw up against Nice (70.3WC) on 12/13th September. PTO have expressed enthusiasm for having a combined WTCS/T100 weekend: that’s another element in my speculation.
If I was privy to the dates/venues I would obviously not share them. I’m expecting the calendar to be published after Dubai, to fill the 4 week hiatus till the end of the Road (to Qatar).
