T1 Wetsuit Owners + Wetsuit Strippers

Desoto T1 wetsuit peeps, how did your experience go w/ the wetsuit strippers at previous IM events? I’m thinking many of the strippers will be dealing w/ a T1 for the first time and try to pull my wetsuit off in the wrong direction.

Peace,
Rob

When you come out of the water just hike up the top a bit and they will understand what needs to be done.

Pull the top off and take down the straps yourself as you leave the water. Then have the wetsuit strippers strip off the bottom.

You mean give you a neoprene wedgie?

The T1 comes off pretty quick and with minimal effort - I can’t really see a “need” for a wetsuit stripper.

Having said that, by the time you get to them you should have the top off and your bibs down around your waist - so the suit will come off just like any other.

Since I’m pretty stiff, I find the strippers faster at getting the legs off than I am.
1.down on my back
2.yank!
3.run.

Get the top off before you hit the strippers, and also have the bibs pulled down. Then it’s just the same as a sleeveless (or really a sleeved) in that the pull from the waist and BAM! it’s off.

wetsuit stripper are fun but it s slower than doing it yourself… i never use the stippers and save time that way!

Ok, let me make sure I’ve got this:

  1. Take your top off
  2. Pull your pants down
  3. Let the strippers do the rest

Sounds like how I envision every saturday evening.

Jonny,

I agree. In all my years of racing at IM’s I never used the wet suit strippers once. I was able to get my suit off faster on my own. I did really appreciate the volunteer person who would pick up my wetsuit, googles and cap and put that in a bag for me and give me an encouraging pat-on-the-back “Good Luck” as I dashed off to get my bike. That is/was a huge help!

I say this because I was able to routinely pass 20+ people in T1 at IMC every year.

You haven’t seen me peel wetsuits then  I had spectators cheering for me at IMLP last year.

Pull top down, throw you to the ground, legs come off in one swipe, pick you up, then the final touch is I give you a running push on the back to get you going.

I’ll be in LP again this year peeling wetsuits. I guarantee it will be off in 5 seconds.

i beleive you are good at it and thank you so much for volunteering… it make a huge difference, ,actually, it s because of people like you that the sport is possible…
thank you so much

as for the subject, peelers can be fast, but not as fast as a well train ITU athlete… i dont use the peeler because i can gain some times doing it myself and it s also easier and less energy! but when i was a recreational athlete, i used it all the time and had a blast!!!

So let me get this straight…

I know it sounds bad. I just look for the best looking female strippers…er…wet strippers…er…wetsuit…Oh! Well!

Agreed - when I worked as a peeler at IMLP this made it easier for the few folks I helped who had the T1 who had either the top off already or had it partially pulled up.

I wouldn’t let the strippers go after your T1. When they see those straps off your shoulders that attach to the bottoms they just grab them and pull. My T1 bottoms had to be repaired after IMLP last year. Just take it off yourself.
