I am a newbie, so forgive me. I have practiced my T1 transition many times and am getting better in taking my wetsuit off, but in an event the velcro chip holder always slows me down and really pisses me off. I thought about wearing in on my wrist or arm (if a wear a john) for the swim, but it would still require me to put it on my ankle at T1 ('cause I do not want it on my arm the for the bike and run). Any tips 'o wise ones?
I never had a problem pulling the suit off over it.
First, don’t be gentle when getting the wetsuit over the chip. Pull like hell and the chip will stay on and the wetsuit will come off. Second, put the chip just inside the wetsuit rather than putting the chip below the wetsuit.
That said, the chip is the thing that slows me down the most in getting my DeSoto Tres off.
I think that you need it on the ankle so that the timing pads will pick it up. If it’s on your wrist, the pads might not notice it going over them.
I wore the chip on my wrist in my first Oly a couple/few years ago–my ankles are pretty thick and it was too snug. On my wrist, the chip failed to register my swim finish, and the event directors were pretty frantic when they couldn’t find me in the computer.
Luckily my wife told them I was on the bike course as they were about to send out a search and rescue mission.
