im not sure if my coach is old school and this is my 1st time to have a swim coach since i started in 95. workout for yesterday was 4 x 500 with t-shirt, even sets - paddle and pull, odd sets - swim only – was hard as hell, stroke was not changed though but felt the drag from the get go
I’m the farthest thing from a swim coach, but I can’t imagine swimming with a t shirt on is beneficial. It sounds like you would be working on building up strength, while avoiding working on balance in the water and improving your form.
Cheap drag suit, nothing more. Everyone already owns one.

Would only work if its a “triathlon race” t-shirt…probably wouldn’t increase drag with shirt or shorts if you suffer from shoulder problems…could be stressful to your joints…
lol…thats what im owrried about but so far no joint pain and no issues with hip rotation/ and stroke mechanices…will see in a few days…
Try swimming with shoes on - we did that in college. My coach was definitely old school. Not really sure what value swimming with shoes on gave us - but I’m sure my coach had fun watching us drown!
We swam in college with shoes on also…Oh wait…that’s when we jumped into the pond on campus when we were drunk…never mind!!
This sounds to me like a way that your coach could just mess with you, which will do lots of things including make you think how much tougher you are now that you have done this.
