I have seen posts about people getting free power from a bike fit. In fact I know someone who got re-fit and got 40 more watts. Someone suggested that they were fitting more upright, thus power at a lower hr but less aero. What can you tell me about system one fitting? I am looking to get an agressive fit on my bike.
WHen I got the bike a felt s32, it was fit but used a 1 inch spacer for the aerobars. I have since gotten rid of them and had to lower the seat angel slightly. I want to put integrated aerobars on it and lower it to a perfect position and get re-fit. I want to do this in the winter. What else would I need other than in aerobars?
I am not quite certain, however measuring wattage via different fittings takes time and several tests. I just recently switched from a System one fit to a more agressive lower and slightly (1cm) more forward position, my back is flat. I did a 54 mile TT on it on the first ride, not pain, felt great. Maybe it took time to get used to a lower position, I dont know.
I got a fitting fom Cobb’s people last spring. They set me up pretty aggressive and foward on my P2k. They did a great job IMO, and it was worth the $. They do more than the SLAM position, in fact, I posted my after-fit pictures here and there wasn’t really any substantial changes suggested indicating that it was very much a FIST like fit. IMO, they have a lot of tools in their fit experience and would probably be very good fitting people who had physical problems.
Like Gary said, don’t expect to see a huge power increase immediately unless you are doing something stupid right now. It takes some time to get used to a new fit.
I must have been tired when I worte that post. I didnt quite articulate it the way I wanted too. lol! I wasn’t looking to get a bunch of new power from the bike fit, although ti would be nice, I was more concerned about hem setting me more upright for more power instead of aero.
Should I be looking for the most aero but still comfortbale that I can get or aero/most power? What about running off a position like a TT position?
I asked them the same question before I went in for my fit. They are not a SLAM only shop. They go with more upright positions only when it is appropriate.
I’m focusing on the 1/2 IM distance right now, I’m relatively young and flexibility is OK and getting better. They have me setup in a FIST like position, 80* seat tube angle and the higher end of Dan’s range on handlebar drop. They went with the higher end of the range to add just a little comfort for the 56 mile ride but I’m stil within Dan’s formula for drop. They said that if I was focusing on oly or sprint they would have dropped me lower. All that said, I’m still riding pretty low and my back is flat and horizontal.
