Swimming suit? goggles?

What kind of swimming suit do you use when ur training? Anyone training with a tri suit in the pool? It sounds like a good idea to get a proper swimming suit since it may improve my speed in the pool. (I may be wrong about that)

I have also thought about training with a tri suit, but I have never seen anyone do that at my gym.

What kinda swimming goggles do you guys recommend? I’m using a regular speedo goggles I got at REI but they get foggy really fast and after a while of using em my eyes beginning to hurt.

Im currently using a pair of “beach” swimming shorts.

suit - speedo endurance. ( i also wear a nylon mesh drag suit over top, but that isn’t necessary)

the trisuit (or any lycra suit) will get destroyed by chlorine. fine for racing, for training you want nylon.

goggles are highly individual. lots of “real” swimmers like swedes, they’re cheap and comfy, but can be a little finicky to set up correctly. I’ve been using speedo speed sockets lately, also very comfy. whatever you get, they should be able to seal with minimal strap tension. if you have to wear them tight, then you need to either adjust the nose peice or try a different style.

The only thing I have personally found to keep my goggles from fogging are dabbing a tiny bit of baby shampoo on the lens, then rubbing it in with a couple drops of water. It works way better, and is much cheaper than the goggle defoggers you can buy.

Whatever goggles fit your face. I use Swedish goggles.

Chlorine will kill your expensive tri suit.

X2. I use Barracuda Hydrobat goggles. Swedes have never fit without leaking for me.

I second the baby shampoo comment. It’s dirt cheap and works well. You can get a travel size for less than a buck and it will last a whole season (or more).

All of my goggles (usually Aquasphere) claim to have some “anti-fogging technology”. It’s all BS. I used a brand new pair just this morning and by 700 yds they were fogging. So, out came the baby shampoo.

I don’t have too many issues with fogging goggles, but I suspect it has a lot to do with the air temp at your local pool. Our’s is pretty warm on deck.

I usually just put 'em on dry, occasionally i have to rub them with my fingers. they never fog while i’m swimming, it’s only when i take them off between sets.

I always look for a polyester suit for training. Speedo Endurance is a good bet, but other brands have similar products. The main thing is to look for something that’s 100% polyester. Most training suits will slow you down, but that’s okay. They’re for training.

As for goggles, go someplace where you can try them on. Try to stick with whatever works for you.

I wear the TYR Polymesh Trainer. They wear like iron if you rinse them in the shower. Do not wear anything made with Lycra. Get your goggles where you buy your suit, any brand will do as long as they fit. Saliva is the easiest way to avoid fogging your goggles. Spit in them or run your tongue around the insides before putting them on.

Second the baby shampoo tip, but regular spit works pretty well too, smear it around the goggles and rinse briefly
.

As everybody else is saying, go with a polyester suit. It will be more expensive, but well worth it. The stitching or drawstring usually goes first on a quality suit.

Awesome! Thank you all for the great advice, I’m gonna look for a polyester suit.

if the only thing you have to currently swim in is a trisuit, then any pair of swimmers will do the job. Yes, the Speedo Endurance or other polyester ones will last thousands of pool session, but any pair of swimmer, lycra etc will still last you a season or two of pool swimming.
goggles… any pair that fit your head & eyesocket will be perfect.

TYR Duralast suit
Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 have, hands down, the best optics I’ve found. They are low profile and comfortable!

You may find the fabric PBT listed. That too is an endurance thread that will last.

And it is perfectly fine to swim in your trisuit occasionally in the pool to test it out before using it in competition. Just make sure to rinse it really well in cold tap water afterwards and hang to dry. It will take more than a few swims to kill it.
