Swimming is turning me into a blond

Literally. The chlorine in the pool is bleaching my brown hair. But not all of my hair. I have a very noticeable brown stripe going around the side and back of my head where my goggle strap is. I’ve been swimming more lately as I try to come back from PF, but not too much more than the summer. I guess the summer sun was offsetting any effect from the chlorine. Obviously if I wore a swim cap that would solve my problem, and I’ll probably start because I look very ridiculous. It’s going to be fun explaining the weird stripe to family over the holidays. Anyway, I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else has ever had a goggle stripe appear around their head.

Try showering after the swim with warm water and chorline specific shampoo.

Pick up a copy of Sid and Nancy, listen to some Drop Kick Murphy’s and just keep yelling oy oy oy at Christmas dinner, and when uncle Joe say’s you look ridiculous, punch him in the face. You’re punk now.

I thought you were going to say you were losing count of your laps or something!

That made me laugh.

Try wetting your hair before you get in the pool. If it’s already saturated with water, you’ll soak up less chlorine.

Yep, wet your hair thoroughly before you get into the pool. Once your hair is saturated with water, it won’t readily absorb pool water.

But, dont’ worry if you go blond… blondes have more fun

There are shampoos specifically to remove chlorine of swimming…

A guy on my HS swim team decided to see what would happen if he swam without a cap and never washed his hair the entire season. Our pool was extremely poorly maintained in terms of chemicals and temperature (both too high). His hair ended up turning clear. yes, clear (which kind of looked silver), and then it fell out.

Ok this is definitely enough to get me to either wear a cap or wet my hair before I swim. I always shower and wash my hair after a swim, but I don’t use any special sort of shampoo.

Dropkick Murphys are fantastic. Do or Die is still their best in my opinion…

This is why I am bald and grey? I thought it was just b /c I was old.

From much experience, just wearing a cap will not solve your problem. Hair still gets wet when one is worn. Like other posters have said, get your hair wet first, or to take it a step further and use a little conditioner too.

Yes, blonde is better than white. My hair was white for years in high school and other high intensity periods. Then, it starts to fall out too. That’s fun.
