Swimming in small pools (like hotels)?

For the next 120 days I’m staying in a town with limited swimming pools. Has anybody ever tried those contraptions made of rubber tubing and belts that allow someone to swim in place in a small pool? Do they work? Does your form suffer? How do you hook them to the side of the pool? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks-

man that just sucks. try your best to find a real pool…if only 2 times a week, or once. it’s worth it.

It sucks even more since I’m doing IM Wisconsin in Sept…but I’m trying to figure out something…

120 days? D-A-M-N!!! I think the SAC would jump out a window if I told him I had no (real) pool access for that long. Where will you be based out of?

I used to use bands and rather liked them, but the SAC doesn’t - so I stopped using them.

I’m in Panama City, Fl…you would think there would be a plethora of pools, but no…an outdoor one at the base with limited hours for lap swim, and the community college that also has limited hours.

Not familiar with SAC???

Is there some reason you can’t do some open water swims in the ocean? I’d much rather do that than swim in the chlorine any day!

Just did it in Mexico and the large waves and fish biting at my toes scared the shit out of me
.

I did my first ocean swim at the Panama City Beach Sprint tri and swallowed about a gallon of salt water mis-timing the waves and breathing. Plus I think I would think about sharks the entire time if I was swimming alone…

Do a lot of sculling drills maybe. You’ll get buff.

I’m surprised that more of you don’t swim in the ocean. Every time I’m in Florida, usually in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale areas, I get up early before the waves get too big and go for a nice long training swim. I really enjoy ocean swimming and don’t really worry about the sharks, fish, etc…

Rule #1: Never swim in the ocean alone

Rule #2: Never swim in the ocean before dawn or after dusk

Rule #3: Never swim in the ocean with a dog

Rule #4: Never swim in the ocean with a cut, scrape or road rash.

Remember … “if there’s salt where you be; sharks you may see” … Arrrrgh!!!
