I’ll be in Phoenix/Mesa next week, and am looking for a place to swim (late afternoon/evening). Any steers to a good pool would be appreciated.
There’s a 24hr. fitness with an indoor pool in Tempe if that’s close enough for you. I belive it’s off of Brand, but don’t quote me on that. It’s very easy to find though, and a good place to get in some laps when you’re away from home.
there are two different masters practices that I know of. Desert Thunder in Mesa, here is the link, http://www.desert-thunderms.org. The other is Sun devils masters of which I have no link. Just google it. Most Mesa city pools open up after 1pm I think. Cafe-Lactate of this board coaches the first masters group.
Maybe 24 Hour took over LA Fitness, but when I lived there, all of the LA Fitness’s had pools and they are all over the place. If they are around or if 24 Hr took over, join for a week or see if your current gym is part of the same National organization as LA Fitness. They should allow you to at least use it while you are there. If not, call around the bigger hotels and see if you can sneak in.
Desert Thunder Masters is in Mesa, AZ at Kino Jr. High (848 N. Horne), you’re more than welcomed to drop in on any of our practices…just ask for Coach Dave (both coaches are named Dave…makes life simple).
Mon-Thur 6-7pm; Mon-Fri 5:45-7am also…but you stated late afternoon/evening…but at least you have options.
Pool is outdoors, but covered during the day, and is kept at about 80-81 degrees.

I go to Phoenix a lot on week-ends, and I swim at cactus pool in scottsadle or ASU. They all have masters practice. ASU isn’t that far from mesa, you can check the sundevils website for all practice and hours.
