Swimming in Austin

I will be in Austin, TX next week on business and will be staying on South Congress Avenue. Can anyone recommend a place to do an early morning swim?

I swam at Zilker Park when I was there. It’s a spring fed ‘pool’. I thought it was great. It’s near downtown by Austin Tri Cyclist (cool shop).

Stacy Pool if you don’t go to barton springs.

Stacy is off of Live Oak east of South Congress…before you get to Oltorf. It’s free, 100 feet long with a few lap lanes, and heated. I don’t know what time it opens.

If you bring a wetsuit, you can do some neato open water swimming in Barton Springs - it’s a park /creek/pool thing

Or there is Deep Eddy, a fresh water pool, fed by the same springs as Barton - (gonna be cold - 67 deg)

There is also a YMCA downtown, close to south congress -

it has a nice indoor pool (gonna be warm - high 70’s)

and there is group rides sat and sun morning -

as well as the hike/bike trail downtown for some great runs - there are free run workouts with Runtex downtown - http://www.runtex.com/runtexu/ beginner, int, and adv -

man, have I mentioned lately how much Austin kicks ass?

parks schedule of pools - stacy is listed -

.

Thanks for the feedback! Someone from the office that I’ll be in suggested Stacy Pool as well.

Unfortunately I’m only going to be in town for one night. I’d like to stay longer because Austin definitely does kick ass!

Somewhat related question for any Austin folks … I’m going to be in Austin for three days at the Barton Creek Resort. From the hotel website, it looks like they’ve got plenty of running trails. I called about the pool and was told that they have an “olympic size pool” – um, yeah. I don’t see a 50m pool anywhere on the site.

Anyone familiar with the resort? Do they have a pool that is suitable for swimming laps in? Or should I consider my time there a “run focus”?

Thanks in advance …
