Swimming books other than Total Immersion

After going from not being able to swim more that 2 laps of a pool to a strong MOP swimmer, I’m looking for swimming techniques other than Total Immersion. TI has been great for me and I will probably use what I learned for a long time but I would like to see what else is out there and work on it during the winter months.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for books, workshops or videos to work with?

Thanks

“Swimming Even Faster,” by Ernest Maglischo if you want to be bombarded with a ton of information on all strokes. It can be a little overwhelming, but it’s what I consult when I ever have any coaching questions.

These are the best books on swimming…

Ernest W. Maglischo; Swimming Even Faster

Doc Councilman; The New Science of Swimming

The newest Ernest Maglischo book came out earlier this year and is called “Swimming Fastest”. Not a cheap book, ($32 from Amazon) but 790 pages of technical explanations and impressive thoroughness.

I’ve also heard good things about “Breakthrough Swimming” by Cecil Colwin

Try “Open Water Swimming for Triathletes” by Penny Dean. She spoke at our club and ran a clinic for us. Very knowledgable without losing me in jargon.

One caveat here: The original title, Open Water Swimming, is not a great resource for triathletes. I own it, I read it once, but I don’t think it offers a lot to triathletes. It does have some useful info, but it’s focus is mostly for people who want to do the English Channel, Catalina, or just cover themselves in lanolin, not how to be a better swimmer.
