Deeg of Team Taint and Trianthes after some swim intervals in Lake Michigan at the site of the Grand Haven YMCA Triathlon. One hell of a nice evening for a swim. The lake was exceptionally warm (68-70 degrees) for this early in the Summer.

Nice pics. If I don’t make it out to GH this weekend, I’ll be there some afternoon next week. About two weekends ago the water was 50-55 at Hoffmaster. Not cool!!

does the Grand Haven “Y” still do the open water swim from the pier up north to the park?
last time i did it was the same weekend of the old Shu’s tri when the lake turned…water temp was upper 40’s in August. cured me for a while.
How many athletes will they have in Grand Haven on July 10th?
We’re going to be in Grand Haven for a few days in July. Do you know if there are any public pools where I can swim laps in the area?
Yes - I believe it is July 23rd. It usually conflicts with a golf tourney I play though. Very cool race - 1.75 miles from a County Park to the North Pier.
I am told that there are 200 preregistrants. Kenny thinks 100-150 more. Pretty big for a first time event. Very cool course. Only idiosyracy is a long transition run to T1

Lake Michigan - free Free is good, and I really like free, but 4,000 yards of intervals on a clock are even better.
It was a fine swim on a fine evening with my rival Mr. Anthes. Somebody posted a thread regarding best burrito- well, Grand Haven serves a fine burrito right on the beach. However, be wary of the beef and bean with hot salsa- I busted two latrines the next day- one at my hotel, and one at a police station where I was taking depositions. Come to think of it, I now question the fact of (1)- why Mr. Anthes gladly paid for the burritos and (2) why he was laughing. Oh well, worth the pain.
Grand Haven is nice, good running, good swimming, tough burritos.

It was a great race day. Deeg is hot this year - beat me in the swim despite the fact that I kicked his ass in the pool all winter long only to see his lanky old man body in front of me at the beach - I give up!
I was able to get to the front on the bike thanks to the new Renn disk. The best part of leading the run is that you can cut the course, which allowed me to hold off Jack for the win. He was a raging bull of spit and sweat charging for the finish.

It pains me not be participate in Deeg’s event this weekend, but we will be at home. Hope to log some long easy miles and do a little 5K monday in support of the high school cross-country teams.
Keep kickin’ ass - we will race soon. Or rather, I will watch you pull away from me. The current plan is to do Interlochen and Petoskey up your way.
It was quite a battle last Saturday in East Jordan, though Gar put the wood to me on the bike. I was la ittle surprised to hear Gar behind me after the swim, but I did make clear that I was “gonna go till my arms broke” in the swim. Oh the pain.
Per usual, Gar is correct, I am came to the finish line with sweat and spit flying- kids, dogs, and parents ran for cover- not pretty. Gar’s exact comment at both races wherin I finished second to him this year “dude, you all right”- my reply “yup, just get away from me for about 5 minutes until I get my shit together.”
East Jordan is one of the coolest races ever, besides the taintman of course.
