I swam 120metres in 1:50 tonight. I think that is a 1:28 100! This was LCM, with a wetsuit, salt pool…but still, for so long I have struggled to hold 1:50 pace. I was holding 2:00 for the 120m tonight without much bother (that’s 1;36s, right?).
So, for someone who is a poor swimmer, the wetsuit and long course is a godsend, and it seems like I may be getting somewhere.
Onwards!!!
Maybe it’s the moon’s effect on pool tides (instead of tidal pools), because I’m having a similar improvement…a sudden gain in speed in the water. I guess we’ll have to wait 28 days to know for certain!
This is a very old pool here in Auckland, built in the old English Lido style. It has been refurbished and is a favourite for tri geeks. Outdoor salt water pool, beautiful harbourside location. Trust me, doing your workout there as the sun sets behind the city buildings is something else.
The point of the post, though, was that for someone who reps out at solid 2 min pace, to be able to pull off a 1:28 was not too bad, even allowing for the wetsuit.
Kiwipat, 1:50s @ 120m are 1:31.67 @ 100m, and 2:00s are 1:40.
Methinks you are taking 4/5 when you should be taking 5/6. (100/120 = 5/6)
Nevertheless, congrats for the breakthrough!
