Swim Pools in Austin

Hey,
I’m traveling for work to Austin for a week and wanted recommendations for pools as close as possible to the Austin Convention Center in Downtown Austin. Preferably something affordable as I’m not aware of admission ticket prices in the US for pools (I’m from Israel).

Thanks!
E

Downtown YMCA: prob your best bet
Austin Aquatics: but only master classes there no open swim, 8 min drive SW
Pure Austin Breaker Lane: about 15 min drive north
UT: only master classes
.

There are a few options. As mentioned, these are likely Masters/Members only:

  • University of Texas
  • Western Hills Aquatic Club
  • Austin Swim Club/Austin Aquatics Sports Academy

The city does have a few pools nearby that could work.

  • Big Stacy Pool is a few miles South on South Congress. It is a 100ft (33 1/3 yard pool, 30 meters) that is free.
  • Deep Eddy pool is a colder (72ish degree F, 22ish C) pool that is a few miles West of you and is $3. It is also 100ft (33 1/3 yard, 30 meters)
  • Barton Springs Pool is a couple of miles away, and it is a natural surface 1/8 mile (200yard/meter) long pool that is 68F/20C. $3.

Many of the city pools are not yet open, here is a link to the city site:

The downtown/Town Lake YMCA is also a good choice. I believe that Andrea Fisher coaches workouts there so you may be able to get in a coached session.

I posted in another place, but this is a great APP that has helped me a lot while traveling…

Thanks so much for all the help!

Seems like the YMCA is indeed the best option and is also just a mile away from where I’m staying, so I can walk there.

Can you recommend best masters swim for drop in downtown Austin ? Staying in Clarksville or Hyde Park area (VRBO) for a week at the end of January. I checked out masters schedule at JCC which looks like does not allow drop ins for early session 530-7am, which is preferred time to swim due to logistics with kids. Looking to meet some cool people in the event we relocate to Austin. Thanks.

From those locations your best bet is going to be Longhorn Aquatics at the Texas Swim Center. They typically have some earlier practices. Longhorn Aquatics is closest to where you are going to be. Whitney is usually pretty responsive to email.

You might also check the Town Lake YMCA to see if you can do a drop in there. Andrea Fisher is (or was) the aquatics director there, and I thought held master’s practices. I don’t know the times, etc. but it is close to your 2 listed areas.

I’ll check both out. thanks for the info.
