Swim Fin Recommendations?

Does anyone have a particular swim fin they want to rave about? Anyone use the TYR split fin?

Thanks!

Never used the TYR so I can’t comment on them. I use the Aqua Sphere Zip fins and like them, they are split fins like the tyr and seem to have a similar design. I like the adjustable back which allowed me to size them nicely. I think the sizing is alittle off because I have the 6.5-9.5 size and have the buckles tight and I wear a 9, I think they would be to big for someone with a size 6.7 or 7.
You can get them (and read a description at trisports.com or trizone.com.

Love the TYR split-fins. Bought a pair for the pool after using split-fins on a scuba diving trip. They’re better than ordinary pool fins and less expensive than the one’s touted by Total Immersion.

I can’t personally recommend them since I don’t use fins but everyone on our swim team that isn’t still swimming with Zoomers uses Hydro Training Finz:

.

The TYR split fin is cool.

I’ll rave about the Finis monofin. These things are a complete work out. I couldn’t walk for a day after using mine. Haha. I guess you guys should see for yourself. http://monofin.com/l4-fin-main.html I currently use the Trainer 2 (the big black stiff one). It’s a beast.

Finswimming is also going to be an Olympic sport in 2004 for. It’s huge in Europe and Australia right now.

I’ve been training now for about 6 months and I went through the same decision. I ended up going with a pair of BLUE Zoomers. The red one’s were really stiff and the swim pro at my local shop (Forward Motion Sports in Danville, CA) suggested that unless I was planning on really eleite racing and developing seriously agressive swimming skils they may be too stiff. Since I was just staring out I decided to err on the side of caution, knowing I could go to the red ones if I felt I was in need of the stiffness later. The salesman also said that there is also the possibility that the TYR’s may eventually actually provide more thrust than I may want as my legs develop strength. The Zoomers give you just that much fin to propel you “up” in the water to allow you the energy to concentrate on your recovery and glide during catch-up drills.

That being said, several of my training partners on our team use the TYR’s and they like them all the same. But hey, the zoomers fit in my gym bag much easier too!

Cheers!

Are you sure about fin swimming getting in? Last I heard, they were holding the number of swim events steady for Athens, despite lobbying to add women’s 1500, men’s 800 and the stroke 50s.
