The grass is always greener.
I wish my kids were swimming. The formula for success is so simple:
- Hard work - 70%
- Talent- 20%
- Good coaching- 10%
Instead they are playing soccer.
No-one seems to know what the formula is.
But here is my guess:
- Early puberty- 20% this will get you on the best teams and will get you the best opportunities
- Dumb luck - 20 % maybe you get lucky and find a coach that especially wants to help you, maybe the best team needs your particular skill set
- Talent- 20 %
- Very rich parents (70% if you’ve got them)
- Selfish, dishonest behavior- 30% “it’s only a foul if you get called”,
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”.
The dirty, the talentless, show offs and ball hogs- will always get chosen before the skillful “team players”. - Hard work and passion - 10 %
The funny thing is they say team sports teach you how to be a team player and prepares you for life.
Sure- it teaches you that narcissists and cheats get ahead in life
That hard work, passion and talent are only occasionally relevant.
I say screw that. I have a career for that BS.
