I spent a half hour last night at the pool trying to get my Swedish goggles from leaking. #%$@!!! They aren’t even new- I’ve used this pair for a few weeks with no problems, and then last night they’re leaking like a sieve. Just the one on the right- no matter which piece I put over my right eye, it leaked. &*$%!
Swim one length, get a goggle full of water, stop, re-adjust, swim another length, get another goggle full of water. &%$!!
Shorten whatever you use for your nose piece. Sounds like the lenses are too far apart. Cut a strip of rubber off the headband and use that.
I’m already using a piece of rubber for the nose piece. Believe me, I tried shortening it, lengthening it, tightening the head strap, loosening the headstrap, and every other combination of adjustments I could think of. Still kept leaking from above my right eye. At one point, a little girl jumped in my lane, saw my struggle, and tried to give me some advice on how to fix it. She was about eight, I think, and after several more lengths, gave up trying to help me, and just started chatting to me about her typical swim workout every time I’d stop to readjust. She swims 100 laps- “back *and *forth”- some days.
Oh, screw that. Do you have any idea how much money I’ve wasted on goggles that don’t fit me? I got a small cranium and beady little eyes. Up til last night, Swedes have worked better for me than any pair of goggles I’ve ever owned. Most goggles I have to tighten down so hard my head swells up like a balloon. If the Swedes fail me again I’m just going to bring a dive mask to the pool and live with the fact that I look goofy.
Form memory, swedes “only” cost a couple of dollars? I suggest that you take them home, smash them up with a hammer, then go out and buy a new pair. It may not solve your problem, but you’ll feel a bit better
I’ve had my Seal Mask for a couple of years and absolutely no complaints. Nothing before them worked. I have the older, large style. The XP model is smaller with the same design. Give 'em a shot.
I don’t know if I would want to wear the seal mask at the local pool. That wider range of vision might bring some of the water aerobics grannies into focus.
I’ve been using Swedish goggles since I raced USS, high school, college & my first triathlons. I swore by them and have sworn at them on occassion. Sometimes I have had the awful day that you have, but for the most part I have had great days.
Then a friend recommended I try the latest incarnation of the TYR Socket Rocket 2.0. I am completely and utterly sold on these. They are something like ~$7 which isn’t too bad. I even sprung for a metallic pair for next season which I tested out at Masters last night. After 2-3 weeks so far I’m sold.
Well I have never had any problem with these googles. I have always lent them from the good swimmers in my TRI-club when I have forgotten to bring my to the poolpratice. They always fit indepentently(how do you spell that?) who I borrow from! But maybe the swedes only fit swedes
I have to agree with BNasty. The Tyr Socket Rockets have all the advantages of the Swedes, plus a nice silicon gasket so they are more comfortable. Plus at $7 a pair ($12 for metallic) you can get lots and lots of them.
I love them. They are more comfortable than any other goggle I have tried (no raccoon eyes) and they look extra fast too, which is always important.
Like you, I’ve had problems with leaks with every pair of goggles I’ve ever tried - invariably one eye leaks if not both. It makes me nuts. Not long ago I got a pair of Kaimen Aqua Sphere and thought I’d finally found the right pair to fit me. Finally, goggles that don’t leak! However, I’ve had them for a couple of months now, and one eye began leaking a week or two ago. I wonder if the rubber gets worn or somehow dries into an odd shape or something that causes the shape of the rubber to change. I’ve kind of resolved myself to never being satisfied for a long time with any goggles and buying new ones every couple of months.
