Hi all, looking for some input on sweat testing. For those whom have done it, was it helpful? Did you make some drastic changes to your hydration plan following the results?
I’d save your money. The sweat test only tests one component of the many contributors to total fluid loss. In the end, the test is there to sell you products. Taking in high sodium during training has little downside and it’s certainly something that’s pretty easy to dial in if you pay attention to your training weight loss during long workouts, sodium and fluid intake and weather conditions.
I am a heavy sweater and was shocked to see how much fluid I was losing in an hour…in an indoor environment. I absolutely think it helps understand what you are trying to replace…especially of you are doing longer races and other endurance events.
Sweat tests don’t measure the amount you sweat. You can work that out with a set of scales and a bike ride.
The sweat test measures the concentration of Sodium in the sweat, to help understand exactly what needs replacing…

This.
I have done both and found both to be a bit of an eye opener and quite useful.
I might have jinxed it now, but I haven’t suffered with cramp to the same extent since being aware of my numbers.
Also consider sweat rates for the different sports / work rates / conditions etc.
I was surprised how much fluid I lose when I swim - and no, I don’t pee in either the pool or my wetsuit … lol
