This may be a silly question, but I honestly do not know the answer. Long story short…I currently have a cervelo 54cm p2c bike and the frame is a bit to big for my likings. Is it possible for me to switch the frame out for a Planet X Carbon frame and use all the other Cervelo parts to complete the bike?
Yes. You will (obviously) need new shift/brake cables and new shift/brake housing. Have you tried checking if anyone with a 51 P2C will trade you frames?
It never works that way. You tell yourself you’ll shift everything over, then you think that you’ll keep it as a turbo/training frame, and by the time you’ve finished you have two full bikes in the garage…
You’d want to check the headtube length to make sure the fork fits, or would you be getting a new fork.
As above, in theory then all you should need are new cables (inners and outers, gear and brake). But then you also need bar tape too… And so it begins. May need a new headset too, not sure what type either the P2c or the Exocet use. But may be as easy to buy new than remove from the p2C anyway, and it’s not that big a cost.
On the plus side, then it’s a great way to learn about bike maintenence, and is actually pretty easy. Things you’ll need:-
Torque wrench (low range for seat post / bars, high range if you have a SRAM/GXP chainset)
Carbon assembly paste
Copper slip / antiseaize
Cable cutters (not wire cutters)
Headset press (+ possibly remover, depending on what’s in the P2c)
Workstand (not 100% essential, but bakes life a whole lot easier)
Park tool website.
Patience
2 hours.
Or use an adapter headset to run a 1" in there. Would make more sense to get a new fork. And of course stem. And then probably base bar and aero bars as the stem will be for 32mm base bars and not 27.2…
