Thinking of doing the Survival of Waterloo 10-stage tri this summer up in Michigan. This race seems to be based on the Survival of the Shawangunks up in NY, which I wanted to do, but is sold out for 2009.
Anybody local have more information on the course, water temps for the lakes in mid August, etc. Suggestions for places to stay would also be appreciated. Biggest question is, would it be worth traveling from San Diego to do? Anywhere to rent a decent bike nearby (Tom D?), as I don’t think it’s worth taking my bike up there just for the relatively short bike leg.
This race fits perfectly into my schedule between IMCDA in June and the TTT-CA in September.
Race looks fun. Since I am not a traditional tri-purist and just love a challenge. I was wondering if there are other events similar to this on the west coast. I too am in San Diego. Sorry if I hijacked thread.
absolutely worth the trip. the course will test you.
water temps on average will be in the 70’s but weather conditions leading up to the event will have a big impact. 80’s are not out of the question. here is the link to the state DNR page which has lots of info.
Courtyard in Ann Arbor is host hotel and the group code is already programmed for reservations if you use the link from the EST site, or this one.
Tom D may have some options or ideas on a rental or similar. the area tri clubs might be able to help with that too including Jackson, Ann Arbor, Infinite, F.A.S.T., and several others in that area. they are all listed and linked at michigantri.com
i’ll be there in a support position and hope to get a chance to meet you.
