Support our U23 Team!

It just occurred to me that this is a world-wide forum (how cool is that?!?!?!) and that many different U23 teams will be competing in a couple weeks - so, all you other-than-USA peeps… feel free to cheer on your own team! This is an idea to support USAT’s U23 team and my good buddy Denny DePriest who happens to be the best U23 coach out there!!! You will never find another person more dedicated (can I say, obsessed???) with his job. He absolutely loves what he does and it shows in his work.

I was hoping you all could put together some of your comrades and take a pic wishing our U23 Team some good thoughts as they prepare for World Championships on Sept 11th. The U23 will race on the 10th and the senior elites will race on the 11th.

Let’s get together and send a pic of you and a sign to show your support. I will post what we did. Post it here and send it directly to him ( denny@usatriathlon.org ) and he will hang them in the athelte’s dorms. They are putting together a powerpoint presentation so maybe they can be included there as well! (The presentation includes great pics from when they spent a day with the SEALS in Coronado at there Winter training camp and some of there training that has lead them to this rewarding experience. How cool would it be to include us wishing them well!)

The athletes he works with are the following: Jasmine Oeinck (19) 2005 U23 National Champion, 4th overall Pro Nationals

Sara McLarty (22) 2005 U23 National Runner Up 10th overall, 2005 5 and 10K Open Water National Champion

Matthew Seymour (21) 2005 U23 National Champion 9th overall Pro Nationals

Manuel “Manny” Huerta (21) 2005 U23 National Runner up 10th overall Pro Nationals

Rest of the U23 team:

Jarrod Shoemaker

Jenna Shoemaker

Michelle Lindsay

Brendan O’Brien

These guys below will be racing on the 11th

Joe Umphenour (35) ranked top 20 in the World 5th ranked American

Mark Fretta (27) ranked top 20 in the World 4th ranked American

Take care all and let’s show them what kind of support Slowtwitchers can give!

Good thoughts Maylene.

I will be cheering on those Kiwis as they take it to the rest of them.

Man, I almost remember the days I used to beat Matt, well at least stick close to him:) Hope they have an awesome race. The US has a nice strong U23 team this year.
