I’d be interested to hear comments from people who have tried Optygen? The company hypes the results from the supplement but I haven’t met anyone around here who has tried it. Any relevant comments are appreciated.
It works. Only supplement that I use. Only supplement that several high level athletes that I know use.
That enough?
Do a search here for optygen, and read the posts by Ric_Stern and Philbert.
Snake oil.
A friend of mine who was a professor here at South Dakota State U did a study with Optygen on our cross country team, and proved that it did indeed work. I’ve seen the study cited in adds and online. If I had the money, this would be the first supplement I would purchase.
Also, I participated in a study using 1st Endurance’s Pre Race, which also was showed to decrease 40k TT times.
one of my teammates has a hook with 1st Endurance. about 6 weeks ago i started training with efs sports drink and using ultragen for recovery after tough rides. the sports drink is the first that doesn’t tweak my stomach. after having good results with those two products i started taking optygen a couple weeks ago. i have no scientific evidence, and other factors come into play, but i tend to feel better sooner after workouts. or more specifically, even if my legs are feeling a bit cooked i’m still able to complete the next workout at the intended intensity. i don’t attribute this to ‘buyer’s placebo’ since $50 isn’t enough to make me want to believe the stuff works. our team is actually sponsored by a different very well-known sports nutrition company, and get free product by the box (i.e. there’s little incentive to pay for something else).
i didn’t think too much of it during base period since those workouts are more tempered. but since switching into build, with a 3-day and 2-day blocks of intensity each week, i’m noticing a bigger difference in being able to complete each workout.
Thanks for all the replies. First hand experience is what I needed. It is not cheap, that’s for sure. I train hard, seven days a week including some days with morning swims followed by afternoon/evening runs or rides. I also do a session of PowerCranks for one hour on Fridays. I know those sessions have helped me with power output, but I’m always looking for an edge. Thanks to all who posted.

Make your own, it’s way cheaper.
