Supplements for heart health

Just wondering if anyone is taking anything for ongoing heart health care.

I’ve not really been big on supplements but have taken 1000mg of vitamin C daily for the last few years as per what Joe Friel recommends, but interested to see if there is anything that could potentially help support good heart health. I think I’ve got a pretty good diet and not been sick over the last few years, so thinking I’m in good health, but the more I hear about potential for heart issues in endurance sport, the more I wonder if there is something that could be a good preventative (apart from annual rest in off season, lchf diet etc). I’m closing in on 40 (1 more year, but at least I age up!). Also, spoke to a new guy at my work who is a bit older and used to do ironman until he had heart issues and had to stop which freaked me out a bit. My general feeling is for the most part, the increased fitness etc is great and better than sitting on the couch drinking beers all day(apart from the off season or when the All Blacks are playing), but still interested in any preventative supplements. Have heard Q10 coenzyme may be beneficial.

Any thoughts?

80mg aspirin daily
.

Whole foods, not supplements. Statins aside, a plant based diet:

Agreed on whole foods, but looking to see if anything else.

Aspirin is an interesting one. Have heard how it works, but not heard if it is something for athletes (although it may be).

COq10 and Magnesium for heart health. Agreed on a more plant based diet. Plenty of science behind everything I mentioned.

Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. Either fish oil or (what I take) flax seed oil.

Thanks to everyone who’s responded so far. I get allot of omega 3s etc already so thinking of looking at magnesium and Q10. I may also look at cycling it, so taking mainly in peak season and not taking in off season.
