Suplicy bikes...nice frame

Yeah, the bike needs a spoiler to compensate for the lift that downtube gets.

and a new brand name is born…DeBergerac, n’est-ce pas ?

Love it!

I’ll take that little bit of lift. It won’t be enough to negatively effect handling and might decrease RR.

I met the guy who is starting up this new bike brand last June at the pool in San Deigo. He brought one of his first prototypes along to the pool the day I was there.

My relative who was racing as a pro gave him a few pointers on what was lacking in his first prototype. The suplicy guy was open to suggestions and had already spent alot of money at that early stage of development.

So he has put alot of time and effort into it. I had a few good triathlete contacts for him, but he wasn’t really interested.

So I wished him well. It is hard starting a whole new brand but it can be done.

Umm, dude, what exactly did he develop? The decals?

Good question.

Don’t know wht he developed, but my cousin suggested he get a metal butt for where the rear wheel scewers attach.

Also the original bike had the seat stem as part of the frame which had to be cut to size. This was new to me but looks like he has gone away from that idea.

Maybe he just got the manufacturers to send him a prototype. Well it has been well over a year since he started on it so am guessing he has had some input into the frame.

basically i am guessin but my cous reckoned he had already invested alot of money into it back then.

And my feelings on the whole bike thing is that it is not the design so much as the person riding it that makes all the difference. Put a top rider on a P4 or some or a carbon ‘suplicy’ with the same components and i think the speed difference will be negligible.

It takes courage to give it a go so am picking he has some design engineering background.

Now i will have to go and look at his site. Last times i searched for his sitte it wasn’t up so go figure.

Only PX was not smoking crack when they came up with their pricing…
I just got an email from Element 6 bikes which quoted their price for the same frame, fork, seatpost and headset at $970.

Yeah I think this is part of why Planet-X decided not to ‘refine’ the Stealth but to go down the ‘import custom Lynskey to the UK’ route.
Clever idea to take advantage of the weak $$$, rather than to try and take on either Cervelo or the cheap carbon copies…

A few months back this guy was in Triathlete magazine article complaining about how there was no money in triathlon and to make ends meet he had to start a bike company. He also intomated that he designed the bikes from the ground up and devoted his life to R/D on them…Then I went to his site and saw hat he wants something like $5K for a bike with no pedigree and I was turned off rather quickly.

Suplicy Guy: Hey baby.

Cute Girl by Pool: Uhm, hello?

SG: How you doin?

CGBP: Ok, I guess.

SG: See this bike frame here?

CGBP: You mean the one you have with you in the pool? That bike?

SG: I made it.

CGBP: Enough sun for me today. See ya.

didn’t mean for it to sound gay if that is what you are implying.

yeah i guessed he brought it along because there were a few triathletes training at the time and he is aiming for that market.

Only spent 10 days of my entire life in the USA and thought it was a great place, especially San Diego and the outdoor pools. The canyon running was was my favourite and there was plenty of hot chicks. Definitely a place I was sad to leave.

Well the ‘suplicy’ bike is getting plenty of promotion here. Won’t be buying one myself ever though.

A guy hitting on a girl is gay?

Mis-interpretation.

he did look to be making a bit of a show, but hey he has to start somewhere.

we don’t know this guy didn’t develop it.

John Cobb really designed the 100 mm wheel. Then his Asian factory sold it to everyone and their mom.

Maybe planet x really was the first to develop the stealth. but they shouldn’t get too upset b/c they ripped off JC’s wheel. Unless they didn’t realized it was someone else’s wheel already which I would understand. It’s just a totally different set of business ethics.

This is the real reason some companies (like Zipp) make things in the US. So that no one else will be selling the exact same product.

Not sure what is inferred by ripped off JCs wheel ? - the 101mm rim is a planet x mold , the 100mm rim is a JC/Blackwell mold . The timing of the introduction of both models was pretty concurrent .

There are two molds - Ive seen them both , we own our mold .

As far as I know this rim (depth) isnt sold by any other companies and the Asian manufacturer hasnt sold these rims to anyone let alone anyones moms,

Sorry, I really was trying to write in such a way to give everyone involved the benefit of the doubt.

If you really think you’ve got a different mold I’d be surprised. Did your asian company offer you the idea or are you claiming to have come up with an idea to have a 101 mm deep wheel? It could be they changed John’s mold just enough to sell it to others who were unsuspecting? Again, I’m not blaming you of wrong doing but I think some people (John esp.) got the short end of the stick.

Theres no think about it , there are 2 molds , each mold is CNC marked with a code , our mold is WHO9 .

For 100% sure came up with the idea , the deepest on the market at the time was the Hed 90 , so we were either going to go for a 99mm depth , or a 101mm depth - there was a long jokey discussion debating between myself , Brant Richards of on-one , Dangerous Momo my french distributor , and my Taiwan agent Rick - the benefits and marketing possibilities of a 99er (in the uk also an ice cream with a buggle gum underneath) versus a 101 (consigned to room 101 a tv programme). It was a fun day , I remember it very vividly , we also requested the manufacturer not to manufacture this rim depth for anyone else .

Anyway - its all history .

The moulds only last a limited number of uses, hardly worth modifying them halfway through their life.

but why not 100?

too obvious

we also have our own 82 front
