Superfrog

The Navy SEAL thread got me thinking and I looked into Superfrog, perfect timing before my A race and its within driving distance as I can stop in PHX overnight on the way. Has anyone here done Superfrog? what can you tell me about the course? hot? windy? It would be pretty sweet if I were able to put it to some SEALs at that race (not that I could in any other situation) any advice is welcome, thanks!!!

I live in Coronado. The bike course will be windy and boring.

I did it last year and have signed up again:
TriBodyboarder’s Superfrog Race Report
.

I’m in.

Swim can be a little challenging (it’s been mis-measured in the past). Make sure you get comfortable getting through the surf zone.

Bike is pancake flat and really boring.

The run is challenging as it incorporates quite a bit of sand (some of it soft, but not as much as people want to claim). Learn to run with a lower stride height and you’ll find the sand a bit less challenging.

The weather should be beautiful (it is San Diego).

Well run event in a motivating environment.

Cheers,
Puskas

I’m doing it as well on a relay with 2 other ST’ers…should be fun.

did it last year and am doing it this year.

swim: easy
bike: easy
run: HARD

spending a day racing with the US Navy SEALs: Priceless

there have been lots of threads posted on the course, but the bike course is a flat, either 1 or 2 bridges to climb closed to traffic 54mile bike leg. It was rather nice actually to have only support vechicles on the course. You can’t beat aclosed to vechicle traffic bike course.

The swim is a typical ocean swim with 2 loops. Look out for Jaws and you should be good, if you can wave surf back in all the better.

the run sucked in the deep sand. i went from ~6:30 mile pace to 12:00 mile pace on it. I ran a 2:00 half and I have to try really, really hard to run that slow. That was a PW (personal worst) for me for everything under 15miles.

That being said a roughly 4:55 to 5;00 cracked the top ten so not the fastest nor deepest field in the world.

is the entire run in the sand?

No there is some paved sections. But the deep sand section is longer. The packed sand by the ocean was a breeze to run on. I managed to catch everyone who had passed me on the deep sand for laps one and two. But by lap three, the gaps were too big. My run splits would look something like 6:30, 6:30 12:15 and by lap 5 that was more like a 14:00.

Read my race report. Each lap is something like 2.7 miles, and 1 out of the 2.7 miles in each lap is soft sand. The other 1.7 is either paved or hardpack sand.

I’m in as a relay (jp will be blasting the run) participant.

Hopefully it will start on time this year, was about an hour late due to filming of the event. That had impact on bike (more wind) and run (hotter).
