Hi Slowtwitch
Reaching 60 and finding regular training plans are too severe and need some advice from others in same position.
Training for Challenge Barcelona end of May and have been used to 9 sessions per week, 3 of each but strugling to keep from being stressed and over tired.
Interested to know how other age groupes manage their recovery.
Thanks
Bumped this thread up again…are there really no over 60’s on this forum???
I’m a decade behind you. I went to a camp and a coach told me that as we get older, we need more rest. My experience says that this is true.
I have been doing two build weeks followed by a recovery week during which I cut back by about a third. I used to take every Monday off but lately I have been doing an easy swim instead. I have never been a great swimmer so I have had some success incorporating more easy, technique swim sessions into my training.
Hey…a reply!..super, thanks.
I had no problems at 50, it’s just been in the last year things have got noticibly tougher.
Very much like the idea of 2 build weeks and 1 easy recovery. I expect to have to add on extra weeks to a standard plan.
Would love to get in touch with Madonna Buder or the guy in his 80’s Robert ? and find out some of their training secrets.
What about diet? any changes there?
Diet, schmiet. Well, as you may have found the old metabolism seems to slow a bit. I did really well during my son’s wrestling season. I just didn’t have the heart for gluttony while watching his travails. We also didn’t have the snack items around to tempt him, or me. Alas, the end of wrestling season seems to coincide with Girl Scout cookie season.
