2.1-2.3 pounds per inch is what competitive male triathletes weigh in at according to Joe Friel.
Both sound about right to me, at 2.3, I’m told I look skinny and need to cut back a little and eat more, at 2.2, I’m told I need to cut back a lot, eat a lot more and I’m not looking healthy. This is a constant one way discussion with the family, I have yet to get to 2.1, as the grief from the family is to strong at 2.2 to 2.18, which is probably why I’m slow by ST standards.
I can’t hit 2.1 (6’ 3" and 157 lbs), and even 2.3 will not be easy or maintainable. It will be a real effort to get there without losing power.
Yes but weight does not increase linearly with height which is a problem with “rules” like this. The taller you are, the more towards the 2.3+ end you are literally forced to be merely by the way the body grows.
In college I remember the “rule” for runners was 2 pounds per inch. But when you are 5’ 7" to 5’ 9" like most of the best guys were, it’s not nearly so difficult to hit that number.
