Sunscreen question (biodegradable in Canada?)

My wife and I ar going to Cozumen soon and will be doing some snorkleing. We are told that local gov’t requests that people use biodegradable sunscreen because some ingredients in the regular stuff can harm the reefs.

We asked the Hawaiian Tropic folks about what products to use and got the following response…

The regulatory agencies in Mexico have developed a testing protocol that allows products that pass to make the claim “Biodegradable”. This claim is not recognized in the U.S., so it is illegal to make the statement on products sold here. Some of our products may pass the test, but we can’t say so.

Unfortunately, products sold in foreign countries are different than our U. S. product line. We are unable to assist you in your search for that product. However; we do have our full line of products on our website for you to view. Some of the products in our U.S. line are comparable to the products sold outside of the states.

So, since there is a sizeable other-that-U.S. contingent here of folks who have at least a passing familiarity with sunscreen…What products are labeled as “biodegradable” in Canada/Mexico???
I know that we can buy appropriately labeled stuff there, but We would like to be prepared

I just looked at the sunscreen I have and none of it says Biodegradable. I mostly buy Coppertone. You might want to try calling some of the larger companies at their Canada offices. They usually have a Canadian version of the website (use “.ca” instead of “.com”) and have 800 numbers.
