Summer Rappaport on Michigan 70.3 Start List

It says a lot when a highly ranked Pro Triathlete says she doesn’t like coming onto ST!

at the same time she should not replay to such nonsense.

Given our sport being a tiny niche, it would be great if we got more human interaction.

In regards to Eric being whipped, well, they are married. If you’re a married man and not madly in love with your wife, then that sucks lol.

Metzler 4:11 (26/2:17/1:24)
#5 Rappaport 4:19 (24/2:25/1:25)

Did Summer have a mechanical on the bike or just bleed time?

Here are the splits for the top 5.

Kind of average for a first outing, certainly a low level race where she could have done better. Winning the swim it looks like, so had plenty of opportunity to pace off of passers, but appears she was just outclassed(or had a mechanical?) Run was ok, but not what we would expect from her pedigree, but that is where the TT bike ride becomes the great equalizer for many.

Give her a few more months to really get acquainted with the new format, and then lets see where she stands. Has all the tools she needs, but she had those in ITU too except for the bike handling part, which should be of not real conqeunce in this format for her…

Rappaport averaged 38.4kph for the first 55km and then 35 for the remaining 35km.
So don’t think anything but ‘gosh, holding a TT position and pushing the pedals all the time is not the same as drifting along in a pack for 40km’. And then running 21km off it is an acquired capability, even for an excellent runner (WTCS standards) like Rappaport.
Compare this with Coldwell (much better rider)'s experience in T100 London where she swam with LCB and then stayed with her (+20m) till half way and then dropped off.
In the same vein, will be interesting to see how Derron (who’s had far more time on the TT bars) and Spivey (who I can’t believe has) do in Ibiza in 13 days.

Rappaport had multiple horrendous injuries over the winter and lost a lot of training hours. I would guess after years in the drafting scene it might be hard to judge how hard you should push. Is it better to have a race under your belt where you didn’t go too hard and learnt a lot of is it better to go hard and possibly crash and burn? I don’t know the answer but she seems quite happy for now.

What a pity this thread got derailed by a negative post, and not about Rappaport!
She came #5 at Michigan behind Metzler’s win, swimming well (surprise), losing 12 minutes on the bike (2:25) and running a 1:25 half marathon.
I think her poor bike in SC profile does not show promise for draft-illegal racing. I guess if she knuckles down and gets the bike sorted out she might be OK in Silver/Bronze tier domestic 70.3s.

That crash at SuperTri was horrendous. I just watched a play back.

She broke her jaw and numerous other injuries that seemed to take forever to recover from. Really bad luck.
