Suggestions on a good set of training wheels for P3

I have been riding my stock Easton training wheels on my P3, and I am looking for a new set of wheels that are durable, lighter, and maybe aero.

I race with Zipp Disk, and 404 Front. I live in hilly area of the country. Don’t want to spend crazy money, but willing to pay around the $500-$800 range for a set.

I would appreciate any feedback I can get. Thxs.

Um…why?

How about some 32x Mavics 3X on Chorus hubs?

Will you marry me?

I just channeled swimfan.

If I were you, I’d get HED Ardennes or Jet60s.

Agreed - why? Having nice training wheels is nice, but these Eastons (assuming that they’re Circuits) are actually pretty awesome. They’re bombproof, they’re 1600g, and they’re 28mm deep. If you start to address one (weight v. aero), you start to lose the others (reliability, etc). I ride deep dish wheels or superlight clinchers, and every time I go back to these wheels (I only ride my roadie about 1-2 times a week, versus my tt bike 5-6 days a week), I’m continually impressed. They’re about as nice as training wheels get. Sure, you could go lighter, but really, this’ll make you stronger on race day. It’s not as ridiculous as riding with 20kg of weights strapped to your back, but it will definitely make you feel the difference on race day.

Or, you could use the PRO approach and train how you race…?

The only set of training wheels a REAL man needs are a set of handbuilts with name-brand hubs, spokes, and rims. And by namebrand, I mean Chris King, Shimano (Ultegra or DA ONLY), Campy, Sapim, or DT Swiss. I think Competitive Cyclist makes a nice pair of tied and soldered hand-builts… but i’m sure a local, and technically competent shop, could build them for you too.

Of course, if you’re not a real man, than you can go for a set of flashpoints, because only POOR people ride those!!

I’ve got a set of Niobium 30 rims laced to DA hubs that I use most of the time for training rides on my P2C. They catch enough crosswind that I get some practice handling the bike in windy conditions and they’re fast enough that I can blow past all the other “competitors” out on the road. They’re also cheap enough that I can replace them if I plow into a pothole or something stupid.

They also work quite nicely on my road bikes.

Rol Volants. The coolest wheel company ever, Volants are a great all-rounder wheel. Sean Lambert is an amazing guy and will treat you like Trek treats Lance. Durable, aero, cheap, stiff. After buzz-sawing a set of carbon tubular in a crit, I raced the volants the rest of the year. They rock. Then, just to be a smart ass, they are also the cross clincher of choice. Look at whay Compton is riding at the Boulder Cup races where she was afraid of goat-heading her tubies (not what the stickers on the wheels say, but the wheels)…
