Need to purchase new Tri top and shorts and would appreciate recommendations/suggestions for IM and Half IM races this year. Trisports is having weekend sale…
Kit.
Funny.
Let me just preempt a potentially long set of responses by saying that approximately 8 out of 10 slowtwitchers will suggest Desoto.

LOL!
I have a ton of DeSoto gear and have nothing but good things to say about their stuff. That said, I bought a Kiwami Konami tri suit a month ago. I was supposed to wear it at Florida 70.3 but I ended up not racing. I am going to wear it on a bike ride tomorrow.
De Soto forza trishorts, low cut (seriously, the most comfortable I’ve tried.
UnderArmour HeatGear top (super light, cool, UPF 40)

And then a few of us will suggest Kiwami…
Yeah, 2 out of 10!
Yeah, 2 out of 10!
But the smart ones…
i really like the craft elite short and top for long stuff, great chamois
.
Okay, I’m going to fulfill the stereotype and recommend the DeSoto Forza Riviera Tri Shorts and Forza Tri Top. Riviera shorts are low cut, but have a great pad in them that’s thick enough for a long bike, but not too thick for a long run.
I’m a big fan of Oomph!'s Kilauea shorts for the longer stuff. Super comfy IMO.

2 built in flask holders, back pocket can hold cell phone, keys, chapstick, salt tabs, etc. and it has a built in velcro race belt that can display the number on front or back.
Kiwami w/ a padded brief underneath works really well.
I really like the Oomph shorts too but I use the Vigor with just the pockets on the sides and back.
Their tops are nice too, they have a full zip sleevless with 3 small back pockets and it’s fairly well priced.
As for Desoto, I’ve gone with them several times, I like the low cut Forza but there are no pockets for an IM ride, you can get the standard ones with pockets.
I’m trying the Riveria shorts and I like them for the bike but not so much for the run. I may ask Emillo if he can change out the pad for me.

I may need to try the Vigor on my next purchase…sometimes the flask pockets on the Kaileua are hard to use while running. Then again my buddy and I joke around that leg pockets add rotational weight ![]()
Jaret,
do the oomph or desoto have the ‘shaped’ pad that gets really narrow in the front? I have that in a pair of 2XU’s and it’s murder with an adamo.
The pad on the Oomph shorts is fairly minimal, just a tad thicker than the Desoto Forza shorts. I know we talked about this but I was never really sure of what you meant. I don’t experience any bunching on either of those shorts on the bike.
The Riveria Shorts have a much thicker pad that I think may bunch up on you while riding an Adamo.
I could photograph them when I get home, would that help?

that would be great!
In the past I have used Oomph’s top of the line shorts. I liked their chamois and the moderate compression the shorts offered. Now I’m using Zoot’s CompressRx tri shorts. They offer more compression and the chamois is very nice, too. They also dry very quickly and are a bit less expensive that the Oomph shorts. DeSoto shorts didn’t fit me especially well, but I seem to be in the minority there.
At any rate, I’d recommend trying on multiple pairs so that you can find what works best for you and to try at least one pair offering some degree of compression.
I appreciate all the responses, I’ve used the Zoot UltraTX short in the past and have a compression top from Zoot, which was great in the colder months. Are the compressRX tri shorts the same material as the top?
Has anyone try the new Skins or LG Elite? Thanks for the responses.
