Suggest a run in Boston

I’ll be in Boston for the weekend (Brookline), and was hoping that someone could suggest a 5-6 mile (or so) run for me.

Depending on where you are, either along the Charles if you are close to BU or do an out/back on the marathon route if you are too far from the Rivah.

My brother in law lives in Boston. We were visiting one time and I did a run along the Charles River (Cambridge Side (very nice running path)). I then crossed the Longfellow bridge into the Beacon Hill neighborhood then ran around the Boston Common park area. Beautiful place for a run.

best option is probably just running up and down the river.

If you are too far from the river- look for the “emerald necklace” or “the fenns” on google- depending on where you are they are nice too.

If you look at boston athletic association website- (they put on the boston marathon), look for the fall half marathon course- that route goes through the emerald neckalce/fenns and is very pretty.

enjoy! http://bostonrunner.com/charles.htm

Another vote for along the river, although another option if you are looking for a flat loop is Day Blvd/Castle Island in Southie. Emerald Necklace has some good hills, especially in the Arboreteum.

There are running paths on both sides of the Charles, and bridges every 1/2 mile or so, so you can cross over and head back without doubling back. Head over to the river (about 1 mile to get there depending where you are in Brookline). 5-6 miles can get you from Harvard, past MIT, to the band shell and back…a great run.

I went to school just outside of Boston, I miss those runs along the Charles…I need to get back up there for a visit!

Well, I figure a lot of Boston runners will read this post, so figured I’d throw in a little “secret”. On the Cambridge side between the Mass Ave and Longfellow Bridges, across Memorial Dr. from MIT’s sailing center (the one closest to the Mass Ave bridge) is this building. It is open 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year, and has bathrooms in the basement.
