Sufferfest training plans

Anybody use either the beginner or advanced plans? I working on building up my cold weather gear but already have the videos and trainer. Was wondering if they would be more effective following their plan vs picking a video and doing it. I’m thinking my plan will be to use the beginner plan as the first 10 weeks of the be iron fit 30 week plan then the advanced plan the last 10. Follow the run plan by the book and swim on my own. What are your thoughts?

The sufferfest videos are fun for the most part but are not a good tool for complete winter training. Most of the videos spend a great deal of time at high intensity. They use a cadence suggestion and then give a rate of perceived exertion RPE scale to use. The majority of time is spent at RPE of 7 to 10. We should spend much of our winter months training our aerobic base at much longer sessions at lower RPE values. I live in the northwest and can not ride outside. I am spending six weeks at between 4 and 6 RPE (130 HR). Save some money and watch TV shows and build your base.

If you pair them with trainerroad you can lower the intensity and use them for longer sessions. I find the combination of race clips and music keep me engaged better than just netflix.

So what about the training plans written by sufferfest? It is supposed to mix the videos with road time or just trainer time. I’m not sure if I can ride the trainer for more than a couple of hrs and do not have trainer road or powermeter. Trying to find winter suggestions. Thanks

Its a mix of trainer and road. I am planning on doing the novice followed by the intermediate over the off-season. I’ll report back on how many dreams I crush on the bike before getting my own crushed on the run

Except that we’ve had several posts and threads stating that what you said is the exact opposite of what you should be doing right now.

Edit: A lot of discussion in this thread http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4847211;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;
