If anybody is in the central Indiana area, or will be on Sunday, January 11, a few of us are going to go for Sufferlandrian Knighthood at The Cycle Studio in Carmel, Indiana.
If you’re familiar with the Knighthood, you probably know that you have to ride 10 Sufferfest videos back to back in one day. You also have to own all the videos. Here are all the rules:
Right now, we’ve got 5 riders on board, and a few more thinking about it. The Cycle Studio has 8 Computrainers, and room for more trainers, if necessary. I think we should be able to handle around 16 total.
We’ve dubbed this the “SUFFERdraiser” because we’re taking the fun out of fundraiser and raising money for Tatum’s Bags of Fun, a local charity that creates bags of games and activities for kids going through cancer treatment. Each rider will have a link so they can ask friends and family for donations. Riders won’t have a minimum or need to contribute themselves - their purchase of the videos and 10+ hours of suffering are enough. There will also be a raffle during the ride so people can visit and enter to win prizes.
Here is the tentative schedule of videos.
Here is the Facebook event.
If you are interested in getting involved, please PM me. It would be great to have Slowtwitch represented!
That sounds brutal. Hope you are able to raise a lot of money! Do it at 90+% ftp or your a wimp Good luck!
All files I have seen from this have the power dialed way down, like 65-70% of FTP as the overall IF of the day. Basically an exercise in how long one can sit on their ass.
That is cool. I love Sufferfest. The LOOOOOONG winters in Maine are tough to get through without the vids.
I think the olly way I could get through a 10 video session is if I did it spin class studio style and did it with some friends in the same room together.
I think that’s going to be the key to this - so far, all the people who are riding know each other, so at least we can motivate each other, chat, etc., and get through it. I can’t imagine doing it alone!
As far as the FTP % goes, I’m pretty I can stay at 100% the whole day, as my FTP is 60.

Thanks for the info. How does owning the videos work with doing this in a Cycling Studio?
Also, is there a rule pertaining to dropping FTP percentage during the ride? I’m guessing that hitting The Wretched at 9 hours in (at prescribed % of FTP) is absolutely BRUTAL…

Regarding the use in a Cycling Studio, since we all own the videos, we are OK. We did get specific permission from Sufferfest that they would waive the group fee for the Knighthood.
There isn’t a rule pertaining to dropping FTP percentage. While we’re using software to enhance the Sufferfest workouts, Sufferfest by itself is just a video using RPE. So, somebody could do the videos by just riding. They do want some sort of proof that we’ve done them, and the data will be the best proof, but it seems the Minions are satisfied with just pictures of a sweaty person on their bike looking relatively miserable. So, I imagine we’ll be dropping the FTP percentage quite a bit. My thought is that I’ll probably deflate my FTP down to about 80% to start, thinking that I would pace myself similar to the way one would pace themselves for a full Ironman when using power. We’ll see!
I may need to be in that area of Indiana for work around that time - if you still have space & I do end up being near by, I will see if I can still join
.
I’ll be in Indy for a week before Christmas – if you happen to do something less crazy - like 1 or 2 of these in a day I’d be happy to join you. Just let me know =)
Awesome, we would love to have you join us! If you’d like, if you click on the link in my signature, you can find my name, e-mail and phone number at the bottom of my website. Keep in touch!
We’re currently officially at 10 riders, with 2 others pretty much in, maybe you, and I’ve been in touch with folks from Chicago, too. I spent some time today at The Cycle Studio in Carmel where it will be hosted, and we figure we could actually get 24 in there if we need the room. We’ve got PerfPro Studio set up and ready to go. So far, so good - over $1,000 raised so far!
It would be great if we can hook up. We’re looking at doing a couple of “dress rehearsals” prior to the big day on January 11. If you want, click the link in my signature line and you’ll find my contact info at the bottom of my website. Keep in touch! Which days are you going to be in town?
By the way, I forgot to say thank you for all your support and answering my questions while I was trying out PerfPRO Studio. Your customer service is top notch!
I’ve got a good software issue: I bought the 12 user version, but will need to upgrade soon! We now have 15 riders signed up for our attempt at Knighthood. The current record is 11 people, according to the Minions. For fun, we submitted a record attempt application to Guinness World Records. Who knows if they’ll recognize it, but might as well try!
If anybody is interested in joining in on the fun, as a rider or just to be there, feel free to e-mail me at travis@vectorcycleworks.com.
We have 4-7 people interested in a Sufferlandia knighthood attempt on the shortest day of the year - Dec 21!!! I couldn’t think of a better way to reign in winter! We are looking at which Cancer event to raise money for… (We are near Portland, OR.)
