Roth is inherently fast - canal swim, moderate bike and flat run. Not a shocker it has 75% of the sub-8’s.

All of the sub-8’s are in Europe, which is why you don’t see any Americans. North America has a plethora of IM’s and 70.3’s, there’s really no need to go to other continents to compete.

It is really a silly exercise when we know the courses that they were all set on were short. Does it not suprise anyone that they are all set on just about the same course, with a little variation at other known short courses?? We know all those guys have done legit courses many, many times, and no one has broken 8 hours on any of those. Luc came very close in Hawaii one year, but as his penalty informed us, it may have been wind aided. Dave Scott did 8:01 in Japan I think, but I believe even he admits a little help from the lead van that day. pauli Kirriu did a bunch of low 8 hour races on legit courses, and usually solo off the front. Not that all those races those guys did were not great races, but it is silly to think that only great races can happen in Germany and Austria…

Actually there is one American on the list. Let’s not be myopic.

I think the weather plays a big role as well, the Euro races tend to have milder temps…

What american has gone sub 8?

Peter Reid. He is an (North) American after all.

I defy you to find a Canadian who is happy to be called an American because Canada is part or North America
.

Peter Reid - CANADIAN and not North American. No such country as North America.

American IM athletes do not race the Ironman. They race the competitors in the Ironman. They never go out to beat the race itself. This actually goes for Canadian racers as well with the exception of Peter.

I know…right?!?

Likewise, I’m so excited to see an *American *team in the World Cup final (Argentina). Aren’t you? I mean it sucks that the other *American *team (Brazil), got knocked out, but it’s good to see at least one still in there. Some don’t consider Argentina *American, *but they can’t help themselves from being myopic - right?!?

It doesn’t make it less correct. Anyone living on the African continent is African. Same with people living on the North American continent.

Plan and simple, there never has been an AMERICAN to break sub 8 hours.

There has only been one North American to break into that sub 8 hour barrier and he was CANADIAN.

Take it from a Canadian perspective. We never ever say that we are North American’s when the USA is the team representing North America. We could care less. World Cup is a great example. We were not cheering for the US team.

I can also tell you knowing people in South Africa, they do not call themselves African’s.

Plain. Simple. But wrong. Looks like Canadians suck at geography just as bad as Americans  Same with grammar and spelling by the way.

I was pretty bummed out when Brazil was knocked out. Because 2/3 of my family is lives in Brazil. And they get don’t like it when people in the US refer to themselves as the only Americans… so, apparently you don’t speak for all Americans.

You wouldn’t go over to the local hospital & argue/debate w/ those w/ a mental disability, & after those replies from Fraussie and Rhymeandreason I think we can all agree that furthering this thread is roughly the same.

Uruguayans, Mexicans, Canadians, etc…all Americans.

Apparently, some here never learnt the difference between continents and countries.

True. Except that you’re in the role of Leo diCaprio in your case. You don’t realize you’re the one inside

They may not call themselves Africans (but I bet that is strongly race dependent), but they are cheering for others on their continent, if you believe the news.

I agree. But seriously, the “you guys are retarded” come back? My respect for Canadians just dropped down a level because of you (still, a bit above Ameri… I mean people in the US). : D

And for what it is worth, like others have said, who cares what your time is if the course is not legit.
