why is a standard bicycle frame referred to as a “double diamond” and not as a “double triangle”? people talk of the “front triangle” and “rear triangle”, but put them together and the frame is usually said to be a “double diamond”. am i missing something here? two triangles can be joined to form a single diamond (provided they are joined along a side of equal lengths), but where is the second one?
I think the correct term is double triangle or a diamond…probably people just combined the two terms.
Can’t say I’ve ran into that particular phrase. Front and rear triangles is what I use when talking about frames
a simple search for the term “double diamond” on this forum returned 11 pages of results, including a reference and quote from a recent Inside Triathlon article by Slowman. i constantly hear the term used when talking about the traditional bicycle frame. that is why i put the question out here.
I was just wondering the same thing actually. Yeah, there is the front and rear triangle, but everyone talks about bicycle design being limited by the “double diamond” shape.
What the hell?
