Nice job, bee sting and all!
Solid result. Especially when you consider that it’s only his second ironman, he was stung by a bee, and he’s not yet in peak form. Jim’s a great guy, always helping other people, easy going (not obsessive with his training and racing, if you know what I mean), and a serious competitor. The kind of guy everyone likes and wants to do well. I’m looking forward to seeing how he does the rest of the season!
Too bad he’s not (I assume) as cute as Jodi or else this thread might have over 3,200 views like hers does ![]()
Seriously, a top 10 finish at an IM is a good day at the office for anyone. If I dream about going that fast I think I’d pull a hamstring. Kudos to Jim.
i was thinking the same thing, but what can you do.
Jim is on a roll, 2 IM’s 2 top ten finishes in 7 months.
Yeah, very nice, excellent result. I was at IMFL last November for his first, and he seemed genuinely excited to perform well. That’s cool.

Thanks guys…The bee sting was to the chest, and happened at mile 25 of the bike, when I was reeling in Victor, down to 17 secs gap. I really started to feel the effects when Tom made his move, and I struggled to get hydrated. I dropped to 9th, came back to T2 in 8th, and held on the whole run. I had a lot of trouble breathing on the run though, as I am allergic, and bee stings affect your respiratory system.
I’ll post a report soon on my blog and things, but given everything which happened, I’m pretty happy with the result. This race was A LOT tougher than Florida was, and it took everything I had to fight thru and finish.
Special thanks to Paulo and JonnyO for the time checks out there and cheering me on.

I dunno, have you seen him? He’s pretty darn cute…
Great result, Jim. Battling the field AND nature, this IM thing is really working for ya, huh? I look forward to reading your report on your blog.
Great result considering the circumstances! I look forward to reading the race report.
Jim,
good job out there, i could see you were fighting hard on the run to stay in there and make it to the finish… that show strong mind when you keep fighting even when things arent going your way! and I guess it s a very good experience and will be usefull for hawaii…there is a tendency to learn a lot more from our hard races than the one that goes perfectly…
good luck in your prep for kona!!!
It took me awhile to write it, but it’s done. Complete with pics for those of you who can’t read that many words.
