Hi , i am a big guy , muscle and a little fat too , i am currently competing in triathlons at an entry level , and enjoying it but am struggling to find a set of wheels that are to a degree , unkillable , problem is that i am a heavy (19.5 st / 125 kg ) and also i come from a strong cycling background and also many years of serious weight training so i am very powerfull.
I want to find some wheels that are very strong , and do not flex too much , as i have been known to kill more than the odd Back wheel , weight of the wheels is not so much of an issue but a consideration as i can lose more weight than the wheels but strength is paramount , my problem is that most bike shops only know about buying light , not for strength as well , cost is relative but i dont want to spend the earth , up to about £350
For what it’s worth, I’m 6’5" and currently around 205, although I have been 220. Still, I’m not the best at avoiding potholes and I’ve been continually impressed by my Rolf Vector Comps. I’ve had them for four years and have never had any problems… never even the need to re-true.
I’d imagine that the Vectors are even stronger.
Keep in mind that I’m talking about the old comps, not sure about the new ones.
I’m 6’3" and around 200lbs. I’ve had a lot of luck with Ksyriums. The thicker bladed spokes seem to work well. I’ve mangeled several mountain bike wheels and popped a lot of spokes on other road wheels but my ksyriums have been unphased by my poor riding. I’ve had them two years and put over 11,000 miles on them and I’ve only had to have them trued 1 time.
