Strange wetsuit idea--UPDATE

Okay, I have a very strange idea. SInce last season, I’ve lost about 13-15 pounds. Last season my size 4 De Soto T1 fit perfectly, but now I’m right between the size ranges for the size 3 and 4. I’ve swum in it a few times lately, and the top keeps riding up. When I stop and pull the top down, I feel noticeably faster for ~200 meters. And when I finish swimming, my neck/shoulders/upper arms are quite fatigued (not a good way to start a race). I think I may be resigned to dropping $150 for a new top (bottoms fit fine).

But before I do that, I was going to try something strange. Last night I had the idea of wearing the bibs on the OUTSIDE of the time. You know, put the legs on, pull the top on, and then pull the bibs on over the top. It would be slightly less hydrodynamic, because the smooth top would have the bibs on top of it, but the other benefits would be the same.

Has anyone done this? I know it would look funny, but I really don’t care. I’ve got a race next weekend, and I’m trying to decide whether to stick it out or rush delivery on a new top.

What do you think?

Hmmm. This is exactly the sideways, innovative thinking that invented the whole thing in the first place. Good thinking.

Hey, it is worth a try.

If I recall correctly, the first triathlon wetsuit was only pants anyway.

I think it will take longer to change in T1, especially if you forget you have it on like that and try to pul it over your head

has anyone just tried wearing the bottom/bib–does too much water get in–full suit leaves my shoulders feeling too fatigue
.

No, this idea doesn’t work. You get a ton of water flowing into the bibjohn.

I just got my smaller size in the mail this morning. It feels FANTASTIC. I think DeSoto really hit it with their new shoulder design. If the water is cool enough, I’ll race in it on Sunday.

Actually, I’ve worn just the bibjohns to good effect in the past - so it does (or at least it can) work well. Perhaps your bottoms are too large?

I’m thinking that the extra layer of the top between the bib and the skin accounted for most of the water leakage.

Contact DeSoto. I wouldn’t be surprised if they couldn’t take it in.???
